T2 what a great score. I was feeling good about my BFSR but after seeing this one a little shone has come off! Oh well, I'm not gonna get rid of it! Well done.

Scott...thanks, but it's not like you have a beat up old example...that BFSR of yours is outstanding, great CTS Alnicos, and with the NOS tubes, it's got to be sounding beautiful! Enjoy that puppy!

Nicely done T! bet that baby has some sweet tone with the new speakers. I'm sure Arjay didn't have to push you too hard either!

You what is also an easy mod (though maybe not cheap)? Replace that 5U4GB with a GOOD 5AR4/GZ34. Re-bias the amp.

These amps really sound good with that rectifier.

+1K on the GZ34 Rectifier...that made in Great Britain Amperex GZ34 in my BFSR is definately a key part of the tone. Although I think the GZ34 works best in conjunction with the Ceramic speakers, and the 5U4GB works best with Alnico speakers...At least that has been my experience, limited as it may be.

+1000!

An absolute classic-and-timeless piece of issue.

Like a Colt 1911 pistol, a Rolex Submariner, or a '69 Z28 Camaro.

Often imitated. But never -- ever -- equaled!

For sure!!

When I think of Fender amps, I think of the Super Reverb and the Tweed Deluxe. I like Deluxe, Princeton, and Twin Reverbs too and Tweed Champs, Twins, Bassmans, etc but those two are my favorites and I'm blessed to own great examples of both.

My current live rig is a '68 Super Reverb and a TRRI together in stereo. It's bliss. :D

Ok if you twist my arm.

1955 (serial D00928) 5E3 Deluxe (bought in Guitar Center Platinum Room in Nashville, TN)

(hard to get good pic of tube chart LOL, tight space)

1968 (serial A27750) AB763 Super Reverb (Drip Edge, Black Lines on faceplate, Blue caps inside) bought at an estate sale for $500 - no guitarists there!

All of my amps together:

(The TR is a RI, the 65amps is a Ventura)

The SR has all new glass, the tubes were all shot and/or microphonic so it has JJ in all of the preamp tubes, and Winged C (SED) in the power section.

The Deluxe has old glass but highly doubtful it is original to the amp. They are clear glass, black ring on the bottom, grey inside (sorry I'm a newbie when it comes to tube terms) and they say GE on them. I did some googling and I believe the GE's are from the early 60s. Those are the power tubes (6V6GT). Preamp tubes are Telefunken IIRC. It came to me this way and haven't had to retube yet.

I have been inside the Deluxe and the only numbers I could see were the same as on the tube chart (D00928). The SR had no tube chart when I got it. I don't remember the numbers on the inside of the SR but I didn't feel like opening it up right now.

Geez, that might be my old Super Reverb (my very first new Fender amp)!

Bought it in the summer of '67 at B&G Music in Belleville, traded it in for a Dual Showman in early '69 at Heil's Music Emporium in Marissa.

That's one clean-looking specimen for sure!

Rawk on!

AHHH...nice amp porn! The deluxe looks to be in fine condition. And getting a Silverface Drip Edge Super Reverb for $500 with CTS Alnicos....a solid steal! Nice collection of amps you got there. I have had the flu since last Friday, but that sure perked up my day!!!

Thanks for posting the pics.

Thanks!

The Deluxe I had to get after learning that Don Felder and Joe Walsh used one on "Hotel California". Joe with a Tele, Don with a LP. It has that wonderful chewy midrange and great touch sensitivity.

The Super Reverb was a chance find - but one I'll never forget. Joe Walsh suggested them in an interview in the 70s saying two SRs together with a Les Paul and an Echoplex was his favorite rig.

Joseph has a long standing association with the Telecaster and Fender amps going back to the late '60s. Virtually all of the James Gang's first album ("Yer Album") and much of the second ("Rides Again") he played using a Telecaster and a Vibroverb.
