Hey guys, I might be getting my hands on a '71 Deluxe. What are are your suggestions for a speaker? How well do you think a Vintage 30 would work in that amp? Thanks, Art

I've put Weber alnico 12A125A and 12A150 vintage speakers into DR's with good success. The 12A125A sound very much like a vintage Jensen alnico. I like the 30-watt version with no or very little doping.

If you like super clean to ear-splitting loud... I don't think anything beats a JBL D120F.

Seems like a good choice. I have the Alnico 10" version(15watt) in an old Valco. Art

What about a nice old Jensen 15 and go the Spankmaster route with it? I dropped one in my 69 Bantam and it sounds fantastic.

FWIW

Yeah T2, that seems like a great way to go. That would mean a baffle board and grill cloth job. Which might be a good idea, considering the original board is probably particle board. Yeah, Baltic Birch would be cool ! We'll see if I even get this amp. But thanks for the suggestion, man. Art

Art, actually, if you follow Arjay's example (and I'd do that)... you may need to go to a larger cab, as well as bigger baffle board. This would be primo, as I LOVE the JBL D130F speaker. And I'm sure that Concert Jensen is very nice, too. Good 15-inchers really have this great tone and overdrive. Better than the D120F, IMHO. But, other than Arjay, I know of no one making this cab.

One other 12-incher sounds good in a DR. The Celestion Gold Alnico speaker. Just that the darn things cost a lot & take a good amount of time to break-in.

Oh Well, It was a $6.00 difference. I think I'll build an Allen amp instead. But thanks for the input ! I'll put it to good use down the road. Art

Art, Allen kits are really, really nice. A friend of mine built one one of the Brown Sugar amps and it's pretty sweet.

Art...keep us posted on the build and which kit you decide on. Like Supro said, those are very good kits.

Enjoy.

Talked with Mr Allen today. Not sure they offer exactly what I'm looking for in a 6V6 powered amp. Might just backtrack, and optimize my old Fenders. You know, RCA black plates and the rest. They're all ready 75% Alessandro-Victoria treated(component -wise). Guess it's time to finish them up. Art

Yep, going the optmize route. Talked with Greg, at Hi Test today. Going with RCA's for the B'Master and GE's for the Bassman. Just to bore you; the B'Master is a '67 Band Master, I modded with Victoria '59Bassman OT & PT. So it's a tube rectified 763 circuit, with hot sauce in the pre amp and adjusted(NFB)& presence, in the PA with the 1ohm Blackgate cap for full presence(via Ken Fischer). The Bassman is a redesigned(1968)2X10 combo. AA864 bass channel with hot sauce, normal channel - generic 763(Pro-Bandmaster) with hot sauce. Power amp is 763 with the same NFB & presence treatment. All tone stacks are Alessando and Allen Bradley, as is 75% of the rest of the amps. I know, What a tube snob! But my guys are very lively and unveiled. I don't know , but Fender's at their very best, are just great ! JMHO, Art
