Hey every one im looking to find replacement tubes for a vintage fender amp that calls for 7025 tubes. These are suppose to be low noise tubes but these are 200 dollars a piece and with 3 tubes thats more.than what the amp is worth! There has to be a suitible substitute for this tube. With tubes being designed mainly for audio equipment there has to be a replacement that is of equal comparison if not better.

Morbe, 7025 tubes are the basically the same as a 12ax7, you don't have to use NOS 7025...here is a link to a great tube place I have used. Note the prices, not bad at all...I have used the Sovteks and EHs's...have not heard of many if any problems with the JJ's either...

T2Strat is correct. The only difference is the 7025 has spiral-wound heater filament, supposedly to lower AC heater-line hum. If you really want this feature, NOS 12AX7WA have similar feature (I recommend the US or Japanese Matsushita Raytheon 12AX7WA). Or the newer made Sovtek 12AX7LPS. Be sure to get the Sovtek from a seller that tests the tube for noise as well as strength.

This is because many modern made, new 12AX7's are noisy (from grid alignment and loose plate issues-- not heater issues).

Go here and look up TAD 7025.

I just bought one of the TAD 7025 to try and I put it into the V2 spot in my '67 Vibrolux Reverb,it sounds good, there was a GE 7025 in there and I thought if the new one sounds good,I'll save the old GE tube for awhile.

Reb...thanks for another source of 7025's, and price isn't too bad either, and if they are as good as the TAD 6L6GC STR's those are going to be GREAT pre-amp tubes.

T2, just to let you know. These are not "true" 7025 (with spiral wound heater wires). It really doesn't matter for most guitar amps, as long as they select them for low noise and high mu. I like the TS RI 12AX7. Works well in nearly all positions.

If low noise is what you are after, these are good tubes. Lot of hi-fi folks with turntable pre-amps like this tube. The gain stages in these units MUST be quiet.
