We had a great gig,in the future I hope to put some video up,maybe this summer...it's full tilt jam music and we fly by the seat of our pants...I love it,after all these years,it's the best band I've ever been in...my son's band!
I used this '62 Vibrolux,the speaker was reconed by "A Brown Soun",the guys who invented the hemp cone Tone Tubby speaker....this original Oxford alnico speaker has a hemp cone now and I've been breaking it in for a couple of months...last night it wailed!

I have a hemp coned Tone Tubby in my Vintage47 Oahu Suitcase. GREAT sounding speaker. I can only imagine what your hemped up Oxford it sounds like in your Vibrolux!!!

They are amazing aren't they phansford! The Oxford sounds so good,every tonal range is seperate but blended together,I love it.
Before the night was over I was giving it all of what it had,volume up to 10,but we can control the sound level fairly well with the volume on the guitars...I had to crank it to come up to what my son had on the '60 Super,it's got two 10s in it and his volume was on about 5,powerful amp to be around 30/35 watts or so.

My bet is that brownface OOZES "sexiness." Have you found women are more attracted to the brownface amps versus the BF or SF ones? They seems to convey a more feminine touch. IME.

Prolly just my imagination, running away with me... again. :mrgreen:

Quite the observation, Beemer! I just dug up an old 12" Jensen Special Design speaker in the basement. Don't know the year or wattage(made in Chicago), but it has a buzz at low frequencies. Can I contact Tone Tubby and send it in for a check up? I was thinkin' about sending it off to Weber, but if you guys recommend another place, I'll try that. Oh yeah the code: 220739..... C12-S C8171-5. That's all Greek to me. Don't even know if it would be worth the shipping, labor, etc. What do you guys think? Good to hear the night was so cool, Reb! Art

My guess is 220 = Jensen, 739 = 1967, 39th week. C12S -> C = ceramic magnet. 12-inch. S = Special Fender. 8171-5 = 8-ohms. 171-5 = you are on your own here. :)

You can have them re-cone the puppy as long as the VC/cone is the proper dimension for your speaker.

:lol: You might have something there!...last night a very good looking young lady,who was "feeling no pain" it seemed,came up in the middle of a song to tell my son goodby of all things,and had to walk up right in front of me,I suppose for her inconsideration of me playing in a solo,she felt she had to give me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek...I probably missed a couple of notes! :lol: :lol:

Art,the only problem I had with the Tone Tubby folks was that they seemed to overlook me and didn't get back to me when I called them even after the speaker was done,they seemed to be very laid back California style,and I had to call a couple of times to get the speaker back...but they were very nice when I talked to them.
With all of my dealings with Weber speakers,I think my next recone will be done by them,if you think you might really be interested in a hemp cone speaker,you might want to buy one to try,they're good but you know how tone is,it's subjective to the listener's fancy.

Thanks for the info! Not sure the speaker came out of a Fender. I'm thinkin' an old Gretsch cab I took in repair payment, in '89. The ceramic magnet is only 3" in diameter, so it's probably low watt. Any way, I'll go with Weber. I think the old Jensens are more up their alley, and they're closer to me. Art

I've bought at least 10 speakers from Weber over the last 7 or 8 years and they have always come through with no problems and sound great,I'm going to send an Oxford and a Jensen to them for a recone.

Reb, I've had good experience with Weber over the years, also. Actually, got 4 speakers spread out in my amps, now.
