Hi,

I just bought an "all original" (according to the seller) Blackface Deluxe Reverb made in 1967.

I'm trying to verify the originality, and the face plate color is a little bit confusing to me. My '66 Super Reverbs face plate seems a lot darker and glossier than the Deluxe Reverb face plate, which seems much more like matte!! I read somewhere that Reissues have matte face plates...
Condition of the face plate (and rest of the amp too) is almost like new, hardly any scratches etc.

So, do you know if Fender did vary the finish of face plates in '66-'67? I guess I'm just nervous and trying to make sure that my amp is not a "blackfaced" Silverface amp, since Fender started making Silverface Deluxe Reverbs later in 1967. I think stuff too much, I know...

- The trannies etc have 1966 codes
- The chassis has "Txx0767" (I think xx might be 35) stamped inside of it
- Tube Chart code is QC
- Speaker code 465-635
- Cabinet has also a 67 code in it, but I can't read all of the code.

Welcome to the forum. Fender did NOT vary it's finish on BF amps. The faceplate does look like a mat finish, but could just be wear. Might help if we had more pics from different angle of the whole amp, including the back etc,. The knob looks correct as does the grill cloth.

For future reference, I would ask the questions here Before you buy an amp and then try to figure out its originality.

Thank you for the reply, T2Stratman.

I live in Northern Europe and there aren't that many BF Deluxe Reverbs to buy over here.

So I had to buy this overseas, from US, unseen of course. The dealer claimed to be reputable, and I also went to couple of music gear forums, got a few replys when I asked about them and none of them seemed to have a bad word about the store.

They have a guitar store that also sell guitars and amps etc through eBay, and eBay feedback was also good.

The back plate of the chassis seems to be glossier than the front plate. Front plate is definitely matte like. Here are some more pics, please let me know if you still need something!

I have seen other amps like this with that mat looking finish now that I see the other photos you posted. It might have just been cleaned using something that took the shine off it, again I have seen this before on blackface amps. Everything looks 100% original on this amp. Very Clean...I think you can arrest your fears, you got a good original one.

Enjoy the amp! And wasn't trying to call you out or anything. I have seen so many that buy an amp and then start asking questions without a clue, you did your homework and your location makes buying a bit more diffecult, but again you done good.

Those BFDR are fine amps...wish I had one. I do have a 64 Princeton, 68 Champ, 69 Bantam (that I just redid with a nice 15 inch 65 Jensen Concert), a 72 Super Reverb, and an 84 Concert (II) with 2x10s...fine amps all, but none as clean as that Deluxe Reverb you scored!

Very nice amp, Delay! Just looked at my '67 Bandmaster, the faceplate has definitely lost it's gloss but it's still dark black. Maybe yours was replaced, maybe not. The interior pics of the chassis show the amp to be all original, fantastic example! Art

Here's the '65.....also look at the other pic I posted and look at the "8" on the knob, the top is smaller than the bottom,"snowman" shaped....the later knobs had different shaped numbers.

I'm no expert on these amps but, what leads me to believe that yours is orginal is the ground switch in the back along with the 2 prong power cord.. i own a 65 deluxe reverb reissue and, it has no ground switch on back panel. (mine has 3 prong plug tho) just my opinion tho...nice looking amp. hope you enjoy it as much as i enjoy mine....

Looks like the real deal to me. I've had and seen several.

Thought I had a pic, but it's another amp:

I know this may have been answered before... but does anyone know the significance to the number in the printed text below the power lamp?

" Design & Circuit Patented 44 "

I think I've several different numbers on the same model and year amps.

Thanks!

Thanks for your help everyone!

Rebelsoul: It is hard to say from a picture, but your '66 face plate finish looks a lot like mine, and '65 seems to be more like on my '66 Super Reverb.

I took the knobs off today, and the finish was same under there + little dirt, so I'm guessing that matte-like look is just the way it is, and not because of cleaning or wear.

Even the footswitch and cover seem to be the genuine articles. Enjoy that amp!

You know Beemer, I've wondered about that number. My Bandmaster has a"50". Don't know about my '68 Bassman, it's not at home. But yeah, don't know how that works. Wait, that Bassman conversion has a Rodgers repro blackface on it, gave away the original silver plate. But yeah, that's an interesting inquiry. Art

I remember another post about the numbers under the lamp and the one on the back panel, but I don't remember anyone having a definite answer.
On another note,Arjay told me that the stamp on the inside of the chassis near the power transformer is the date of the final inspection...in the OP's case it's the 7th week of '67 I believe, and the amp would have shipped out in March,'67,which goes along with the QC on the tube chart. Q being '67,C being March.
