I need to replace an 8 pin power tube socket and looking around at parts websites I'm unsure of what I want.
I'm not sure because I haven't looked, but what sockets did Fender use on the BF amps? My first choice is Amphenol brand, but I just thought I would get y'alls advice on your favorites or the benefits of one type over another...I've seen the Belton brand and the ceramics, but I'd still like to use something near the original part,if there's no major reason not to.
When I buy these I will get several to have on hand.

Reb,

This is certainly not my forte at all, but I am pretty sure that the vintage Fender amps used a phenolic material for their tube sockets. My reference book Dave Funks "Tube Amp Workbook" said it was phenolic material, but danged if I can find the reference now. Here is a link to a place Arjay sent to me for amp parts. These are made from the same type of material I believe.

FWIW.

Good luck.

Reb, I like to use Belton sockets. But the originals were the phenolic type. IMHO the only advantage of the ceramics is the heat related properties. To be honest, I can't remember where I got my last bunch of military grade ceramic octals. I'll see if I can dig up that source. Art

I've looked and found some Amphenol sockets and they're quite a bit higher than the Beltons, and the newer made plastic Amphenols,if they're just as good,I can't see why not to use them,I was curious about Mil-spec ceramics because of the heat related issues....still open for any suggestions.
Thanks!

I got a bunch of US Army mil spec surplus Amphenol brown (micanol) phenolic sockets awhile back. They are the best sockets, except for maybe the ceramic mil spec Amphenols. They last forever and the tangs are easy to dress and tweak to shape.

Beltrons are fine, too. But, I don't think they are as good versus the heat of output and rectifier tubes, as the micanol phenolic or ceramic types. But, you prolly only see the difference after YEARS of constant use.

Good luck with those. I have never had an issue with any proper size Amphenol sockets. Now, I've cursed you... Don't worry I had my fingers crossed when I typed that. Really makes it hard to type-- kinda like playing the guitar behind your back.
