Update- got a a couple of 6K6's. One Raytheon and one kind of obscure tube. It's an old Realistic Lifetime, made in Italy with gold clad pins. I've never seen this brand of tube before, but it sounds great! Art

I really love my 1966 Reverb Unit. The tone is crazy-good. Just as a reminder, a 1-meg ohm resistor tied from grid-to-ground, on the output 12AX7 (7025) helps stabilize the idle bias and prevents runaway. It's pin #2 of the 12AX7 (7025) on the far right of the schematic. You can see this added resistor (R13), on the reissued Reverb Unit schemo.

Yep Yep, I should be able to get to that 1M, tonight. A question, Beemer, do you have a shorting jack on the input ? Art

No, I do not. Seems not too noisy without one.

Just out of curiosity, guys, how much hiss does the Fender reverb have? I'm considering building one of the Weber reverb kits as my next project later this year to use with my Weber 5F6A clone. The amp is pretty quiet, but the Boss FRV-1 reverb pedal I use with it is fairly hissy. Oddly enough, the hiss is accentuated more when I run the pedal through the 5F6A then when I run it through my BDRI.

Blues, my Weber 5G15 has no hiss. But I did make a hybrid ground design to avoid any extra noise. Jeff, over on the Weber board, has the totally isolated ground set-up if you're interested. BTW I bought all upgrade components for mine. But decided to give their caps and resistors a fair chance. And they're still in there, plugging away. I did use Nos tubes. Actually, I use it for guitar and recording vocal tracks. I'm very satisfied with their unit ! Art

Thanks. Good to know. Sounds like a great project for later this year (Christmas is only about 10 months away  ).

My G15A is stone cold quiet. Recapping the PS cap really helped. Great unit. Even sounds good with my Pignose. That deep well, dripping tone. Good thing is the NOS tubes used in the unit are readily available. Good 6K6GT's are pretty cheap.

What is the difference between a 6K6GT and 6V6GT?

Same pinout. The main difference is the 6K6GT is a pentode. The 6V6GT is a beam tetrode (kinda like a small version of the 6L6GC). Power pentodes tend to have a more "browner" tone, geared to the midrange and up (the primary range of the Reverb Unit). Beam tetrodes stay linear a bit longer in the power scheme (in general). Both are great tubes and more-or-less interchangeable.

I like the 6K6GT in the 'verb Unit.

Thanks. I've bookmarked this thread for when I get around to building my own. :D

Interesting. Thanks.

The 6K6GTs seem to be reasonably priced:
