Anyone have this company's iron of these in their amp? Seems like proper date. 831 for company and 68XX for year and week. 1968 Bronco.

Thanks!

Used the original two-prong only to test the thing. Three-prong now in the amp. No more "Death Cap." And hot lead (black) to fuse.

Gonna upgrade the bypass caps. Photos to follow.

Don't know if this helps.......

"Myths debunked! You thought that Fender only used Schumacher transformers on amps made in the 1960s and 1970s and that they were marked with EIA code "606" (the company number for Schumacher), didn't you? Think again... Greg's research team found a slew of amps with transformers made by the Better Coil and Transformers company - marked with EIA code "831". These were rife during the 1966-68 time period."

I checked my 1966 BF Champ. Transformer code is "831".

Photos of replaced items. Used some Dynami-caps and silver mica 250pico-farad in the tone stack. Three-prong cord.

How do you choose which one to plug into? Nice dilemma to have. I really like the red on the Bronco's, and I have even seen one Princeton like that, in my mind they should have used red across all the models!

And the great thing about tube amps, is they all have their own unique character. Even with exact same circuitry. The tubes, the iron, even how the thing is soldered lends that analog magic to the pot.

Transformers for Fender were made both by Schumacher Electric and Better Coil. Schumachers plant was in Rensselaer, IN and Better Coil's was 20 miles away in Goodland, IN. I worked at both plants. For a while many highly regarded Rivera era Fender amps were actually made at the then CBS-owned Gulbransen Organ factory in Hoopeston, Illinois. (CBS owned Gulbransen Organ from 1960 to 1985.) There are a few that the cabinet makers made with very nice laminated wooden cabinets. I don't know if they were ever offered for sale. Later Schumacher bought that facility and built Battery Chargers there.
