it was definitely supposed to be there the lead coming out of the resistor was broken and they were even touching. I think I'm going to take it to a tech anyway though. I'm kind of sick of wrestling with this thing.

Yes, Evan, I understand your frustration. Unless you see evidence of burn marks, I would R&R the resistor. Solder is not a good conductor(unless it's silver solder). And splicing is tedious. The usual procedure would be to desolder the eyelets and replace the component. Just MHO. Art

Ok, so turns out that when I went in to fix the resistor my grandfather who was helping me had broken off one of the capacitors. that's why there was no signal at all when I had re-solderd the resistor. I went to my local electronics store and got a new capacitor. I put it in and it works just as it should. I also replaced the old, kinked power cord so hopefully I wont have to do anything to it other than play it for a while.
