I have a 57 Champ with 6 in speaker. Great body no rips. Brown leather strap. All original parts. Works ok. I get hum when turned up. Grey 2 prong electric cord.
How to repair problem? Tubes? Repair Shop?
Might sell if to expensive to fix. Would like a larger speaker. What do you think?

Sounds like you need to re-cap the power supply's electrolytic caps. I always ramp-up the new caps with either the old light bulb trick or a Variac. This helps you check for bad solders, mis-wires, or shorting--- before total destruction.

Good luck with that amp! Any photos?

Should be a super easy fix. There is nothing in the amp!

If you are not sure bring it to a respectable repair shop and have the two prong plug changed . Have the amp checked over and you have an amp worth over $1000. Well worth a check up cost.

This is what the stock guts looks like. One 16mfd on left side of board (this maybe an 8mfd if the amp is a 5E1 circuit). With two 8mfd 'lyics next to it. I change the bypass cap on the output tube and input tube, if it has a bypass cap (some don't). Polarity is all (+) to the bottom of the photo (breadboard).

Changing to three prong outlet is easy for this amp (no Ground switch).
