Will it work with a 16 ohm speaker? What would be the difference between 8 ohm and 16 ohm?

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, it amp will prolly work with a 16-ohm rated speaker. But, you will not have the potential output power, compared to a properly matched external speaker. And the requency response of the speaker myabe skewed, a bit.

Really, a good OPT covers for a multitude of output stage sins in any amp. One of the reasons most old hi-fi McIntosh amps (including their solid-state line, which uses OPT's), are very durable units.

So ok, I think the thread ran its course so I'd like to add a question. Based on the comments on the back of my Super Six, the total load for both internal and external speakers should be 4 ohms. Forgetting for a moment that the actual load on the Super Six speaker array is 5.3 ohms..... from what I see in this thread, I shouldn't run this amp with both the internal and external speaker connected at the same time. Am I getting this right?

And if so, why didn't Fender put only a single jack input for speakers?

Though the Super Six Reverb's speaker array measures 5.3 ohms, Fender used the exact same output transformer as the Dual Showman Reverb, Twin Reverb, and Quad Reverb (the secondary tap measures 4 ohms). You can confirm that here......

The 022889 tranny is a pretty stoutly-built component -- you can safely run it at two ohms if needed. I'm curious about your SSR's rear panel......most of those I've seen are marked "five ohms" beneath the main speaker output jack.

Curious......
