I talked to guitar center and they didn't know what I was talking about.

I bought a short standard 1 gauge straight head instrument cable and was wondering if that would work.

Also what inputs do I put the cable in to do this. I want the gain of the amp to kick in earlier.

You probably won't notice any difference, but if you want to try it,plug your guitar into the first channel into input 1,then from input 2 jump it with your cable to input 1 on channel 2.
There's a reason you won't notice much, the two channels are not in phase,AFAIK.

Alright thank you. I seen amps like mine being jumped on youtube and they had some good overdrive from it. I'm not sure if they had modified their amps though, but I see a lot of them doing it. I have a overdive pedal if it jumping channels does nothing. I just wanted to check if the cable I got could be used to do that.

If it is a Bassman then they should be in phase.

What Blackface amp do you have? As Art1 noted, it will work in a Blackface Bassman because both channels have the same number of gain statges and are in phase with each other. Any amp with an even number of gain stages in one channel and an odd number in the other channel will not work.
