Help!!

As you can probably notice I am new here. I see there are a lot of great people here with lots of information,so here is my main question. I might very soon have a chance to buy a Vibrolux head 1964. Transitional, wheaty grill cloth, black tolex. for around 800 plus shipping. Next some one closer to home is selling their 1963 white tolex wheaty grill cloth (wheaty is a beautiful word :D ) for around 600. The cab is unloaded.

My first main Question was what speakers should I put in it.

But firstly,do you think this is even a good deal before I jump?...or worry about speakers

If not, then some suggestions for other amps would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum. It would help if you could post pictures of the amp and cab. Condition has a lot to do with whether the price is good or not. That is the good news. The bad news, Fender never made a Vibrolux amp as a head unit. It was only a combo amp. As for a empty cab the cost seems high for an empty cab.

As for Speakers, if you can find good vintage Jensens those would be best, either some C12N or C12Q would be good.

Without pics, we can't really tell you what you got as it sounds as if someone modded the amp by putting it into a head unit (from a combo amp).

If you are looking for an Fender amp besides this one, might go with a 66 Bassman (head and Cab) or maybe a blackface Pro Reverb (2x12 Combo).

Tremolux ah hah! No worry about the mix up, that is what the folks on the forum are here for.

The cab is in pretty good condition and would need 10 inch speakers, so my choice would be a set of webers 10A125P. The new italian Jensens are not the same as the old Chicago made ones. These Webers would work well in that cabinet. The cab is still a bit high priced, but if it is the one you must have then do it. As for the amp head $800 is about right if it is in a condition close or better than the cab.

If you pull the trigger on it, let us know and post some pics of the two together!

Thanks Great Info here.

I also have the chance to buy a loaded Fender 2x12 Tonemaster Cabinet for about $100 Cheaper....

Thoughts???

Would I have to alter anything??

Just looking at ways to save, but, do you think I'd be best to go with the original??

Thanks

The Tremolux is 4 ohms so any cab will need to be wired that way. An original cab is always better, but since the year of the cab and head are not the same you could go with the Tonemaster, which are great cabs by the way, so...

The Tonemaster 2x12 was 4, 8, or 16 ohm capable if I remember right. Even if it isn't, rewiring it is fairly easy. If you can get one of those cabs with the vintage 30 celestions that come with it for $100 cheaper, that might be a great way to go. Either way you will have a nice giggable rig!

Bandmasters are great amps, and that one looks pretty solid. But between the BM and the Deluxe Reverb...no contest, Deluxe Reverb all the way. I am a firm believer that Fender Amps with the Tube Rectifier sound better and compress better. The Deluxe Reverb has one and the earlier Bandmasters do, but the silverface ones like your last post do not. JMHO. A Deluxe can handle most small to medium gigs, but for some bigger or outdoor gigs, depending on your usage, you may want something with more power (like the Bandmaster).

FWIW
