I'm just curious because I have some not in use that I would like to use to keep my 67 blackface safe, but I'm not quite sure what the amps are on the head. The surge protector says 15 amp, 120 vac, 50/60 hz. I haven't a clue what that is but just wanna make sure I don't overload the surge protector.

My experience is that the PS in VINTAGE Fender amps itself is adequate for any momentary powerline issues, as long as the PS caps are not too old &/or dried out. The trannies in most Fenders are way better than any modern day aftermarket surge protector units (ESP MONSTER STUFF, IMHO). Be sure to avoid any cheapie units utilizing MOV parts. These are known to make the AC line worse for transient response.

The only inline filtering I use is a big momma Ultra-Isolation unit for my computers and TV (both are very noisy and can inject noise back INTO the line). I love old Topaz units for this purpose. But, NOT to be used inline with guitar amps.

It used to be you could get a used 5KV unit for around $300 on EBAY (10-15 years ago). They weigh a ton. But, you can see ain't no BS around being heavy duty. 5KV on my main computer (an Alienware unit) along with UPS 1500-- I leave the computer on 24/7. And 1-2 KV on the flat screen TV's.

I'm sure sure protector is not useful for tube amps, They are not electronic sensitive like computer , LCD tv, etc.

Also many surge protector sold on the market have not enough "joules " to really protect electronic stuff.

I've never used one on my amps and never had a problem in over 40 years and played in all kinds of crazy situations.

Surge protector need to be plug to an AC wall socket. You probably talk about UPS , a battery power pack wich can supply you power for your amp ?

These unit must be very powerfull and heavy and cost $$$$.

Then just get a heavy duty grounded extension cord.
