The tone-ring cabs designed by Leo remain the most efficient guitar enclosures ever mass-produced. SPL's typically run 3dB higher than a standard single-speaker bass-reflex box, assuming an identical driver in each. But they were expensive to build and of course did not offer the power-handling capability of a multiple-speaker array. The 1 x 15 Showman held on for as long as it did (until the end of the 1968 model year) primarily because it was favored by many pedal-steel players.

I spoke to my tech yesterday and he said the amp was totally original inside. He said that Vibrolux transformer looked like it was original to the chassis based on the solder joints and that it was just a fluke that it didn't end up with the 45217 transformer. He said all the tubes tested as practically new. He thinks someone bought the amp 50 years ago and then never really played it. He did a few neccessary things to get it playing again and is putting a grounded cord on now. I should have it in a few days and will post some pics of the inside when I get it.

That's certainly a possibility -- and it wouldn't be the first time in Fender's early history that such an anomaly occured. Functionally, there is no discernable difference between the Vibrolux and the Tremolux.

Yep,that was a transitional period in Fender's history, lots of interesting things to find according to those who really study the amps between the Tweed and Blackface eras.
It should sound awesome.

I love hearing this kind of stuff. It really speaks volumes about the inventive and creative nature of Fender at the time.

If that same amp went out today with the "wrong" tranny, some effing attorney would go out, find 25 other people with a similar situation, then bring a class action lawsuit against Fender. The outcome of which would be the attorney makes 100's of Thousand of $$ from Fender for "Settling the case" .... and everyone else would get an additional year on their warranty.

FMIC would likely be spared such tribulations due to the standard "Prices and specifications are subject to change without notice" clause used in all of their corporate literature that's available to the general public.

But your point is well taken......
