There never was anything really remarkable about the OEM 12K5 Oxford in the Deluxe Reverb (I have the same speaker in my '67 drip-edge silverface edition). The Weber will provide a significant improvement throughout the audible spectrum, with less breakup and little-to-no "farting out". Another speaker you might consider would be an original Chicago-made Jensen C12P or C12Q (these are the speakers used prior to Fender's switch to the Oxford). Be sure to preserve and store your original driver lest you wish to return the amp to stock condition. FTR, I'll be replacing my Oxford with a JBL D120F just as soon as I find an example that's worthy enough for the amp.

Is that low note fart out typical of the oxford or is it just tired? I have a oxford in a 67 princeton that sounds awesome and its a 10" .

Likely, both.

CBS, ever interested in increasing its profit margin, sought to squeeze every nickel out of the retail commission on an amp sale. The Jensens sounded better, but they cost more. Oxford was well-known to Fender and built their products to a lower wholesale price point. But they lacked sonic merit and weren't as durable as the Jensen (or even the Utah speaker which ultimately replaced the 12K5 around mid-year 1969). A modern re-cone of your existing Oxford would probably restore some sparkle and minimize the "flab" factor but I doubt that it would sound as good as a contemporary driver from Eminence, or a nice reconditioned vintage Jensen.

I usually change speakers with the chassis out,it's just easier that way, because as clumsy as I can get at times, poking a hole in the cone is a piece of cake when trying to align the speaker into a tight fit with the mounting screws just waiting there.
BTW,Arjay is right as usual about the Oxfords and Utahs,I've had both and to me a new Weber beats them hands down....and don't even consider a new Jensen Reissue import from Italy, some people like them but they don't sound like original Jensens.

On a stock Deluxe Reverb, it's usually possible to swap a speaker out without removing anything beforehand. They're not like my "Spankmaster Reverb" conversions, where everything has to be unassed in order to access the driver......

Thanks for the input, speaker should be here in a week or so , looks a little tight in there and been feeling a little shaky , might have to pull chassis , have to see. Could there be anything else causing this low note buzz in the original speaker? thanks for all the help

You might check to ensure that all the speaker screws are snug and that the baffle board is secured fast to the cab's cleats.

I find it much easier to unscrew the baffle to remove the speaker... but that's just me :)

Too much screwing and unscrewing of the baffle board eventually erodes the wood around the holes to the point that the fasteners will no longer hold the baffle snug to the cleats. At that point, larger-diameter screws are required.

The reason I remove the chassis on a Deluxe Reverb is that one time not very long ago,I damaged the cone on an original Oxford while removing it....like I said,I can get clumsy at times. I wasn't careful enough....but I was replacing it with a Weber anyway.
But when I'm inside the chassis and it's hot,I get very careful.

Carelessness should never be part of anybody's modus operandi when working in, on, or around vintage guitar amps. Plan before you do and do it like you planned. Consider every worst-case scenario before turning that first screw......

The cabinet should be upright. Be sure to disconnect the speaker cable and both of the coax wires from the reverb in/out jacks (make a note of which one goes where as it does matter). Use the output tranny to support the chassis with your hand as you GENTLY slide it out.
