Thanks! I might have to grab those. I'll put a bid in and see what happens.

For now, we pulled the knob off the On/Off switch and put it on the missing Depth control. We put a black chicken head on the On/Off.

This thing has been ridden hard and put away wet. The graphics/text/pin-stripping on the control panel are nearly gone. And the power cord was taped together (original - two prong non-polarized plug). It worked before I took it to the tech. Our approach right now is 1) make it safe to use, 2) correct/repair parts that have failed/are failing (probable will include a cap job due to age).

Tolex is in decent shape - grill clothe in very good condition. It needs a good cleaning. So I need to search the forum for either your or Reb's recipe for cleaning tolex and grill clothe. I remember seeing it.

My approach right now is to make it a player. I think the value of the amp (as a collectable) in excellent condition is between $400-$500. This seems to be an odd amp without a direct Fender equivalent. I am looking forward to getting it back and giving a full report. :D

There's one other vid on youtube. Certainly not a common amp - in terms of finding lots of information online.

There is this nice little article.

According to what I can find - the amp is rated at 15 W. It does have the original cts 12" speaker.

The amp uses push-pull 6BQ5s for the preamp tubes. So its not as powerful as a Deluxe and slightly more powerful than a Princeton (typically rated at 12 watts with a 10" speaker). I am expecting something different in tone with the 6BQ5s. (Which I think are equivalent to EL84's - but what do I know - )

There are few images out there..... and it seems the On/Off switch being replaced with a chicken head is common. There are no set screws with these knobs. They just slide on and off, which might explain why one knob is gone and another is a bit tight to turn on my particular specimen. I might actually pull all the original knobs just to preserve them. Chicken heads are cheap enough and I can preserve the originals for the next owner, plus a few extra if I buy the two Arjay found.

Like I have said.... I want this to be a player. Not overly concerned about restoring it.

Yes 6BQ5 are equvalent or US name for EL84.

Tone in not only tubes , it is also circuit design.

For cleaning vintage tolex , i use a recipe I read somewhere , baking soda in water.

Larry the Amp Tech emailed me at the end of the day.

"Hi Patrick --
You're gonna love this amp. It turned out to be one of the best sounding Gibsons I've heard. The tubes all predate 1970 (round RCA logo) and are fine. I'd guess they're original. New filter caps got rid of the hum. It will compliment what you have in the small Fenders -- clean and pure highs, and hard to make it break up. It's just sweet. Tremolo works fine (as does the footswitch)."

I get it back on Wednesday.
