I recently purchased a 1965 Twin Reverb. After checking the tubes, I found that it has 2 G.E. 6L6's,a Sylvania 6L6, and an RCA 6l6.All the small tubes are newer groove tubes. The amp sounds good and everything works fine.Shoud I install new 6L6's? If so, what brand and type?

If it ain't broke, don't "fix" it.

Check (and adjust if necessary) the bias. Otherwise, leave it alone and enjoy.

Especially so in a bonafide mid-60's AB763 Twin Reverb!

Thanks guys, that's what I thought too but I just wanted other opinions. This amp belonged to a friend and former band mate who recently passed away.He bought it in 1965 and I first played through it in 1968.I won't be gigging with it.

Just curious JL, why not gig with the amp? It was made to play music.

The reason I'm not going to gig with it is because I'm just a back porch player.I jam some with some guys but I'm not interested in playing out.I play mostly Chicago and country blues another reason is I'm old and this amp is heavy.

I can relate to being old with a heavy amp.
I just get the younger guys to carry the heavy stuff, there are some big guys who hang around the band and they're always ready to help...most of them grew up with my boys....also,they're ready to defend me if need be.....I'm like their dad.

As someone who does cart around his Bandmaster and Showman amps, as well as active powered speakers, get one of these and you'll wonder why you didn't buy one sooner:

Kicking myself I didn't have one of these 17 years ago when our band was playing in Chicago... I may buy one for the drummer as a Christmas present.
