Ok, So I just purchased a set of brand new tubes for a 1974 Silverface Super Reverb. I just bought the amp as well and noticed that one of the power tubes isnt functioning (It wont even glow while amp is on). I know the older the tube the better they are but I'm on a budget and bought a whole new set which i'm waiting to arrive any time soon by mail. My question is if someone would like to comment on the tubes I bought (I'll provide a list) and if I am getting as close as possible to its original sound. Thank you so much!

Here are the tubes I purchased:

Electro Harmonix 5U4GB
Jan 12AT7WC Grey (2 of these)
Jan 5751
Penta 7025C (3 of these)
Svetlana 6L6GC (Matched)

Looks like a pretty righteous set of glass to me.

Since many years, we don't use 5U4 on amp , GZ34 is a more reliable tube. But as you have the 5U4 it is ok to use it.

Your Electro Harmonix is the best choice for 5U4

Tubes tore have some advice about tubes;

The Super Reverb's rectifier tube was changed from a GZ34 to a 5U4GB beginning with the AB568 circuit revision......

Indeed, it was the fifteen-milliwatt mental midgets hired by CBS who did it (among other things).

However, the rectifier change was probably the least of their sins.

Thanx guys!

I'm also having trouble finding what kind of circuit is my amp. Do you know where I can find this info?

Go here and compare your amp's physical layout with the listed schematics......

http://web.archive.org/web/200807170341 ... fender.htm

Likely, yours is the 45-watt CBS version with master volume.

Thanx Arjay but mine does not have a master volume. Just separate volumes for each channel, normal and vibrato.

In that case, the closest schematic is probably the AA270 circuit revision.

Thanx for all your help. I am a newbie to the whole tryin to product date this amp. So I have a few more questions. :)

Does the AA270 have a hum balancing or bias pot?
And do you know where I can find authentic spare parts for this amp? I want to switch off the faceplate because its coming off on the edges but I can't seem to find a silverface faceplate for this amp anywhere.

There's only one place I know of that still has a few new/OEM silver faceplates for a non-MV Super Reverb amp. And every time I've posted the link to it, folks go into friggin' cardiac arrest when they see the price then beat the hell out of me for -- allegedly -- facilitating such greed. I'm not really into S&M so I'm all done with that.

:?
