I am replacing the 6L6 power tubes in a Blues Deluxe Reissue.
When I got ready to put in the new tubes I saw there were less prongs than holes for them to go into. They seem to go in any way. Is there a special way they need to line up? Meaning - do certain prongs need to match certain holes? Yikes! I have never done this before. Help Please.
Thanks.

If you will look on the center pin of the tube base there is a raised little ridge called the "key"...look into the tube socket and you should see a slot that the "key" goes into...that will line the tube up the right way.

In glass envelope 6L6-type tubes, pins 1 and 6 are not used. So many manufacturers delete the pins. If your tube is numbered, you'll see 1 & 6 are empty.

But, follow Rebel's advice and align the tubes key-lock that is molded in the center of the guide pin of the tube. Mate that with the slot in the socket. And you're good to go.

Oh yeah... be sure to bias (or have a tech do it) the new power tubes.

+1

This is mandatory for optimum amp performance and tube longevity.
