Is there a trick to taking the knobs off of a silver face amp. They don't seem to just pull off.

Ok, I use a tool that prys knobs off car doors. The key is to use a small block of wood under the tool as leverage, so as not to damage the amp's face. And some 3-in-1 oil on the shaft. Do it gently and move around the stuck know, so as not to break it. (Of course you loosen any set screws first).

+1

The push-on knobs were yet another cost-saving brainstorm from the misers at CBS and were introduced in the late '70s (my '78 TR uses set-screw knobs -- my '80 Princeton has the push-ons). When removing or re-installing, I use WD40.
