Hi i am new to this forum and after searching the info i could find I am hoping the someone would be able to tell me more about this amp i just got. Its a '77 Fender Super Twin Reverb which I've noticed a lot of people get confused with other models such as the twin reverb, super reverb etc etc etc. I've got the 180 watt super twin reverb, the one with 6 6L6's in it. Anyways, I got this amp at a decent price, a little bit of a hack and slash job, the previous owner thought the combo unit was too heavy, and I do agree, so he removed the speakers and cut the box to make a head unit. I got it home and checked the fuse, buddy had a 2.5A fuse in her, when it calls for a 6.25A 125V fuse. So first question would be (after I find the right fuse that is) what problems should i expect from this amp since he ran such a small fuse, which btw must have failed in a way cause the amp was functioning when I went to try it out obviously. The fuse was pitted at both ends but there was still a visible connection. second question would be what type of fuse do I need, I know a lot of older amps need slow blow fuses, and it usually says right below the fuse panel slow blow required, mine does not, so should I still use a slow blow and if not what should I use. I would also like to get a tube layout chart since the box was modified the original one was removed. Also any other helpful info would be nice. I hope some one will know about this amp and be able to help out a fender newbie. thanks all

You've got a monster as nebulous as that found in the Loch Ness on your hands!

Here's the schematic......

This amp uses two peculiar triple-triode pre-amp tubes which are not very common, nor were they ever -- specifically the 6CX8 and 6C10. You'd be wise to find a few of each and keep them on hand "just in case". The amp's theory of operation is relatively straightforward, with the CBS-era bias-balance and hum-control system in the power supply. Plate voltages for the paired 6L6GC's are pretty hot so use some hardy tubes there.

Good luck -- I hope your speaker system is up to the task.

HTH

Thanks Arjay, yea I have been having difficulties finding info on this amp. I have a friend who builds custom speaker cabinets and he has a nice pine box with 2 10" eminence PA speakers in them. I have read as much info on the PA speakers as I could find, but I am just gonna have to go try it out, which I plan to do tomorrow. So hopefully the cab will do the trick cause I am having a hard time finding a guitar cab that will handle this amp lol. Live and learn. Thanks again

Forget about any "PA speakers"......they'll fry the moment you take the amp out of standby and let rip your first power chord. Find yourself a quartet of EV-Force 12's and stuff them into a 4 x 12 cab. They're beefy enough to handle the load and they'll sound great.
