Actually, it sounds so smooth at “bedroom” levels (from 2 to about 5). It kinda reminds me of Les Paul and Mary Ford or even Chet Atkins tones. It’s just a really warm, bell-like tone depending on where the tone is set. Like butter and honey dripping off a hot biscuit LOL!
However, anywhere after the 5 position on the volume it has substantial breakup. The tech said the speaker needs to be re-coned, I think that’ll be next on the repair front.

That's what Tweeds do. Early break-up. And the older the tweed the quicker the break up. Which is really cool if you're a causal player like myself. Its nice to get that crunch without driving the wife and kids out of the house. :lol:

Watch the Fender Vids for the '57 Champ on YouTube. Those break-up early also. Just inherent in the early circuit designs. And the complaint most people had as Fender (CBS) continued to create cleaner tones into the 70's when musicians were looking for that crunchy sound. Hence - Marshall and others were able to capture more market share.
