the other day i was over my buddies house shaking the walls with my 65 fender bassman. its a mostly original march 65 bassman. only a few filter caps replaced and the tubes also. its the rarer aa165 circuit, with original jensens from the 12th week of 65. anyway the amp was sounding a little weak and saw that one of the tubes was not all the way in. i told my friend about it and went to go get another beverage. i come back and there is my friend cleaning up glass. my friend went to the store and got me a new tube. problem is, he got a 6l6 and not a 6l6gc tube. so now i have two different 6l6 tubes. one is a 6l6 and is a 6l6gc tube. is that bad to have that configuration. i played with it for a couple minutes and it sounded quite nice actually. since its a lower watt tube will it hurt my bassman? is it bad? thanks guys

It's a bad idea just to replace one.I would of gotten a matched set and have the amp rebiased

+1

That said, if there is no visible red-plating of either output tube and the amp sounds good then it's probably safe to play -- at least in the short-term.

I would pick up a new matched pair of 6L6GC's at the earliest and install them as a matter of course (re-biasing as necessary).
