OK... went ahead and replaced the precious OEM CTS (carefully mothballed away) with Weber 10A125 (30 watts, no doping). And initial testing... and not to sound too sacrilegious, these are GREAT speakers. A bit more mid-bass than the CTS. And a bit better sustain. Not that the OEM CTS were bad, mind you. Will need to break-in a bit more.

From photos, the speakers with caps easily clear the amp with its bottles and iron and the reverb tank.

+1!

After fifty hours of play, that amp will take anyone into sonic nirvana.

Rawk on!

There are very few new tube amps whose tone would not be improved by replacing the OEM speakers with Webers.

And they're great for some vintage-replacement applications as well.

OK. I broke out two of my last couple of matched pairs of NOS RCA 6L6GC and installed them into the SFSR. Bias them to 45mA each at 465 VDC plate volts. The high notes jumped outta the unit. Range was even better between low and high notes. Mids remained the same. This is through the new Weber Vintage Alnico speakers.

Amp definitely got more of a "bark" to it now. Can't wait for the speakers to break-in.

Why would a SFSR need four RCA 6L6GC's?

Arjay, sorry for the confusion. I replaced the RCA 6L6GC that were in the amp with a pair of NOS BP I had in my stash. I'd say that the RCA in the amp were at about 60-75% life left (judging by biasing, alone--- I didn't breakout the Hickok).

The new 6L6GC made quite a difference.

Blackplate RCA's are the "gold standard" for 6L6GC's so I'm not surprised. I'm still hoarding a modest stash myself. No output tubes ever sounded better in a Fender amp.

Rawk on!
