I saw a silverface Bassman 50 head in a pawn shop today, didn't have a lot of time to check it out. Are these amps worth messing with? I play outlaw country/southern rock and thought maybe it would be a cool amp to have for bigger venues. I know blackface Bassman heads sound great, but I don't know anything about the silverface Bassman 50.
I can probably get it for around $300 or possibly less.

Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.

They're great amps and trace their lineage back to the original AB165 blackface version. For three bills, I'd jump on it. And if you enjoy ballsy southern rock, mate the amp to a 4x12 cab stuffed with Celestion V30's.

I think I'll check it out. I was looking for a lower wattage amp, but the Bassman seems like too good of a deal to pass up.
Thanks for the response.

If it is in good shape, it is a great amp...a design good enough for Jim Marshall to copy.

You might miss the midrange tone control...but if you play blues or jazz, you'll really dig the "deep" switch on the bass channel.

Although there's no gain/master controls as on most guitar amps, just turn it up and listen to the tubes sing...the volume will be right.

This isn't the amp that Jim Marshall "copied". That Bassman was the original tweed 5F6-A 4 x 10 combo.
