I've been watching (and bidding on) Goodwill auctions for about a year now. Final prices always well over what I considered a reasonable bid for something that was "plugged in and makes noise, but not checked with a guitar..." And often as not, the stuff being auctioned is filthy dirty.

I've bid on several amps and a number of mostly odd guitars, but believe me, those auctions are well scrutinized! :|

I have a friend (well, sort of...) who works at a Goodwill drop location here in town and he told me that whoever is working on any given day will frequently nab donations, usually giving a small token payment for same. When I say, well, sort of, I mean he's always telling me about cool stuff AFTER the fact.
