FG1, I have to admit you have "spunk." But, if your YT video are actually what your Dad's 1964 Vibrolux is sounding like... He must be out of town on a business trip. If you like that SUPER CRUNCH, Metallica tone--- this Fender amp is not your cup of tea.

Think EL34 driven amps. Marshall Leads. Big Mother Sunns. Or better yet a restored solid-state Standel. NO super OD pedals needed. You may want to invest in good ear plugs. And a heavy sound proofing in the "Mannish-Boy Cave" (to keep Mom from opening the door). And the hottest active EMG pups you can squeeze into that guitar.

I cringe every time I hear that cacophony coming outta your Dad's amp. It's not what that amp was designed to do. But, if you keep at it... may want to invest in some good NOS 6L6GC's. You'll need them.

Good hunting!

Maybe to redirect this discussion -

Its a real shame that "industrial arts" classes have been removed from most high schools. I sure its the place where many of us learned some of the basic skills needed to do some electronic repair, wood working, and machining we do today. I wish I had taken more than just the drafting classes. (Hind sight is 20/20. I did get some of that experience in my Bauhaus style architectural education)

If those classes were still available, it would be great for a young person interested in amps and guitars to gains some skills. Think about it ..... if Retroverbial ran a shop class today, those kids would probably be doing a 5F1 clone kit as a class project. (I bet he'd make us all call him "Mr. Skinner". )

I am pretty sure if a class like that had been offered, my youngest would have taken it. He did his first "project guitar" this summer. He bought an older Epi LP Special - disassembled it - stripped it down - re-finished it and did new PUPs (Seymour Duncan Phat Cats). Now that he's at college and has access to the Tech Building labs - I won't be surprised if he builds an amp or another guitar sometime .

Maybe if the OP's school has those classes - he could reduce his posting and amp envy and be better-served by taking a few classes.

There was a metal shop/auto shop, woodworking, electronic development (working with circuitry and such), and several computer science classes at the hs I went to last year. I heard they were hit hard by budget cuts though. Not sure if they still have the classes I listed.

Oh my... I'll be moving on now.

I regretted watching that. I admit, I'm no guitar genius, I can't even do many chords due to the fact I broke my hand in 5 places a couple years back(powerchords, yay)... But I would be damned if I looked/sounded like that kid.

I'm not even an adult. I'm just picking on the people my own size, rather than the big bad wolf. (Rebelsoul) (also, I meant big bad wolf as a term of endearment, you can pick your own animal if you'd like, just don't hurt me!)

"Minnow boy" has chosen to swim in the deep end of the pool, where 'sharks' who take vintage tube gear very seriously are known to frequent. That he is eviscerated for his Walter Mitty-esque fantasies shouldn't come as any surprise. If the boy wishes to play at "lumberjacking", perhaps he should know something about the logs.

I would hope your vintage gear is on the side of the pool, rather than in it. Playing at a pool party for some hot babes, are we?

Heh. its on the clean its just the mic is crappy. I use this amp for the clean sound with heavy reverb and small vibrato. I used it in a song i wrote back in 2010

FG1... A suggestion. You don't need a fancy mike. What you need is a decent mixing software for your computer. A friend has been using Cool Edit Pro for a good 8 years now and we burned some CD's awhile back. Through his DR and Peavey Classic 30. Not too bad.

Plus, look for backing tracks on YT. And there is a whole buncha yaddy-yaddy about how to use Cool Edit Pro on YT. You'll get something more like this:

Just a thought.

I think that ignoring him would be the response best in line with what we try to do here, which is be civil with each other. He's not the only blow hard around.ha He wouldn't want me for his daddy either.
