This is the "deep end of the pool". Only hardcore tone-junkies and connoisseurs of Fender history dare to tread here.

Hey arjay, do you know what's up with the patent numbers on BF faceplates. My all 64 champ has design and circuits patented 65. Unoriginal faceplate or those numbers not mean anything? The DRRI my friend had 44 on it.

I'm unware of any research conducted into that, tfunk. I know the original panels have a manufacturer's trademark on the reverse side and -- periodically -- a Fender P/N. As for the meaning of the patent number on the front, I'm clueless at this point (but always eager and willing to learn). My all-original '65 Princeton Reverb reads "68" while my unmolested '64 Pro Amp says "46". I doubt that your Champ's front panel is anything other than 100% authentic.

Arjay,

Go figure this. That number on all my BF and brownface amps is repeated on the back panel. Usually, by the lower right side (looking backside to front).

What could this mean? A secret Mason Society Code? Ok, ok... I've worked four graveyard shift in a row. Better cut me some slack.

LMFAO!

You are correct -- the number does repeat on the rear panel. As well, and adding to the mystique, silverface amps also have a cryptic number on their rear panels too ("47" on a Bandmaster, "49-1" on a Showman).

I'm certain it does. But precisely what that is remains an unsolved mystery.

Somebody call Leonard Nimoy.

I haven't looked at all of mine, but have been playing the BF Pro Reverb tonight...the front has a 72..back is 73 ??
I'll look at the others later,it's something I've noticed but didn't think much about....glad it's not something that everybody knew and I was the only one who didn't have a clue.
