They are similar in output to a Princeton. Beyond that, the similarity ends.

The best thing about the Musicmaster amps was that they are the same size width wise as a vibro champ and you can slide the chassis from a VC right into the MM cab and install a nice 12 inch speaker and get a bigger sounding VC...I had a buddy who did this and he loved that amp :!:

+1

If you can find a 4-ohm Celestion V30, the little Vibro Champ will really roar.

It's not a very typical fender design. I think it uses a transformer for a phase inverter. The 6v6 versions are more sought after then the 6AQ5 tubed version. You can pick these up pretty cheap.Where can you buy a hand wired 20 watt amp for a few hundred dollars

Thanks, as usual very confusing. OK what I think you said is, with the right speaker or speakers It roars. I'll take that as a good thing. Turned into a head and set ontop a 2x12 4ohm cab. should make a good blues amp. JD

No.

The Musicmaster Bass Amp requires an 8-ohm load.

A decent speaker will help out but bear in mind, this amp's tone stack consists of a single "tone" control (no capability to boost or roll back the treble and bass independently). There's only so much that one can do with a sonic limitation such as that -- ie: do not expect traditional blackface or silverface tones. The later 6V6-powered version is the preferred variant as the 6AQ5 models were prone to premature power-tube failure.

Correct.

The Musicmaster's OEM speaker is a real cheesy CTS alnico. Swapping to an original Jensen C12R or a Weber 12F125 is a very "simpatico" mod for a vintage vibe (think Supro/Valco or early '60s Silvertone). For a more modern rock tone, the Celestion V30 should do the job.
