I'm looking at retubing the preamp section of my twin. Right now, I'm looking at eurotubes.com's retube set. What do you guys think of this?

What tubes have you guys found to work in you SFTR?

Fender amplifiers produced between 1967 and 1983 are referred to as "silverface" because of the brushed aluminum face plate. The larger Fender silverface amplifiers, such as the Twin Reverb and the Bassman, are not as highly prized as their tweed and blackface predecessors. However, the smaller silverface amplifiers such as the Champ, the Princeton Reverb, and the Deluxe Reverb, are highly regarded. The Deluxe Reverb Silverface replaced the original Blackface Deluxe that was discontinued in 1966. Replacing the tubes on old amplifiers is an essential step in keeping them functioning at the top of their game. Retubing a Deluxe Reverb Silverface is relatively easy. However, you should have a professional bias the tubes.

Hey PPL...the guy didn't ask for a history lesson....and he is re-tubing a TWIN Reverb, not a Deluxe Reverb, maybe you should read his post again.

jwblant...those would be a good choice,I wouldn't go the extra money for the gold pins though. There are some decent modern production tubes out there now,the Tung-Sol reissues are nice and also the Mullards are okay,I've tried both, stick around some of the guys here will have some suggestions based on more experience with modern tubes...most of mine have been NOS American tubes....and they're getting scarce and high priced.

It wasn't even a particularly accurate history lesson at that!

The blackface amps were produced until the early spring of 1967, when the first drip-edge silverfaces began to ship from Fullerton. Initially, these were the "student" models -- the Champ, Vibro Champ, Princeton, and Princeton Reverb. The first documentable silverface Deluxe Reverb I recollect seeing had a tube chart stamped "QG" (August of '67) although earlier examples are certainly possible. In any event, the Deluxe Reverb's original circuit remained unmolested until August of '68 when the first AB868 revisions appeared.

Class dismissed.

I like the Tungsol Reissued 12AX7 tubes. And you can get mil spec JAN Philips 12AT7WC for a good price. Just as an alternative choice.

A couple of dealers I spoke with back in the day alleged that they received complaints from customers about the drip-edge molding causing audible rattles but I think those claims are both baseless and bogus. The fact is, that molding was rather labor-intensive to install and likely cost CBS/FMI a significant amount of money. Thus, the bean-counters carried the day and by the end of the 1969 model year the drip-edge was history.
