Recently I have come across a silverface Twin Reverb at the local music store and I'm not entirely sure what year the amplifier is. The owner wasn't sure on the date either.

I haven't been able to read the tube chart on the inside of the amplifier, it seems someone had tried to tear it off at some point. I was able to get a few numbers off of various parts of the amplifier, including the transformer code which I'm afraid I am mis-reading.

The transformer code is EIA606-102 (right over it were the numbers 013691). If I'm going by Fender's support page correctly, would this amplifier be a 1961 model?

Also, would these numbers mean anything? (F106486 and 1860).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been using that lately, but I'm still a little confused about the serial number.

The serial number is F106486, but right under it is the number 1860 stamped in what looks like black ink. If I'm going by that chart right, then this amplifier would have been manufactured in the year 1970? :?

More info would help......does the amp have a MV control? Push-pull boost switch? 100- or 135-watt output?

The store owner was kind enough to let me snap a few shots of the amplifier. Hopefully these pics will help.

1981. Last of the silverfaces.

This is an ultra-linear Twin Reverb......a 135-watt platform first introduced in late '77. The first editions used the grill cloth with the orange-rust vertical stripe, changing back to the metallic turquoise weave in early '78. In 1980 the cloth changed again to a poor interpretation of the original blackface material (as this example shows) and remained thus until the amp was discontinued a year later. The final year of production saw a blackface front panel re-introduced.

Looks like the amp is in serious need of a new master-volume knob.

I prolly got an extra lying around......

Try wheeling and dealing with the seller before you buy -- anything beyond $600 for this one is a bit *optimistic*, methinks.

I don't know Arjay's feeling on this, but there seems to be quite a bit of rust on the transformer that can be seen in the picture,I've never liked to see that and know that rust can never be a good thing, you might want to look at some of the exposed parts of the underside of that chassis and see if there's corrosion elsewhere.

+1

Looks to be a victim of long-term salt-air exposure (residence in Florida or other Gulf states?).

The corrosion might be a cosmetic issue only and not a factor that would affect the proper operation but it should be explored and examined prior to purchase.
