Hi all.

I am new on this forum, and I am sorry if I didn't open this thread in the right section.

I would like to ask you guys, if there is some other cheaper Fender's amps, that have similar vintage sound to Fender Super Reverb Blackface, that Derek Trucks mostly use? I really love his sound, but for beginning this amp is to expensive for me.

I would be really grateful for any help. Thanks all in advance!

Any vintage amp in decent condition is going to cost *real* money (ie: if you have to ask about the price, it's likely beyond your economic means). The Fender blackface re-issue amps are relatively good representations of the original prototypes, both sonically and visually. If you can't afford to buy new, prices for these re-issues on the secondary market are more than reasonable, especially now. Most of them need a minor tweak or two to wring a more authentic blackface vibe from them but these upgrades are of modest cost only and can be performed in stages. I've seen used-but-nice Super Reverb re-issues going for $700-$800, the TRRI's and DRRI's for even less. They're well worth looking into IMO.

And where is possible to get this from second hand? Any link please? I've looked on ebay and there is nothing for my pocket. :) Here in EU I didn't find nothing. And the second question is, if it is ok to buy used one?

Thanks for help! :)

My experience "across the pond" is limited. But here in "the colonies", they're everywhere.

Likely, such amps are significantly more expensive in Europe.

Perhaps it's "kismet" that you're not destined to find a Fender amp......

Arjay, that's just mean...

Keep looking; in the US we have Craigslist, a free want ad paper that these things sometimes show up in.
I've bought 3 amps off eBay; each one was a known mess, but I got them for cheap and fixed them up.

while not quite the same, the Music Man 410-65 was designed by Leo at Music Man. Solid state preamp with Tube power amp, half-power switch (in the mid-70's) and about the same weight. I owned one in the mid 80's - 1992 and it sounds good; would sound even better with replacement speakers. It isn't a Super Reverb, but it does sound pretty good.

Stay away from the 4-10 Deville - there's a reason you can spell devil with it...

Thanks nedorama! :)

What would you say about Fender Prosonic? With my father we are searching a little bit, which one we'll buy, and today he found that Prosonic.

And what is difference between Twin Super Reverb and Silver Face Super Reverb with Super Reverb Blackface?

Thanks again!

The Prosonic was a very nice amp with some novel (for Fender) features. They do not do "blackface clean" quite as well as a true blackface (or a silverface) but they're pretty close. And the cascaded gain stages deliver plenty of saturated overdrive tones without the fizz/hiss of later Fender platforms. The combo version was reverb-equipped; the piggyback version, not. The Prosonic would be a worthy alternative in lieu of a Super Reverb.

Thanks! I think I will find one nice Super Reverb Blackface one day... This will be the best way, I think. But the otherway, I think it is too expensive for me, because I started to learn slide for about 2 or 3 months ago.

Just a tip from an old slide player...me! :)
Learn to play slide in the style that Derek plays which is a finger picking, open E tuning form of slide....when you pick a note to play make sure the slide is directly over the fret and when you want that note to stop, rest your finger back on the string which mutes the note.
If you can learn the fingerpicking, muting style, you will become a good player with control over the noise a slide can produce with an electric guitar.
Duane Allman played this way,and so does Dickey Betts,Warren Haynes, and Jack Pearson, all who have played in the ABB,and all have told me this themselves....well,all except Duane....and that is something I will always wish could have happened.
Practice this while searching for the right amp and you will sound authentic in the Allman style...good luck.

Yes, I can tell you that I'm a big fan of Derek, and I'm already learning his style. And I must also say, that I'm pretty better every day. :P I can play a first part of Get what you deserve from Derek, and a little bit of his Layla. :) I'm muting all the strings except that I need to play, and I'm learning on fingers in Open E.

Thanks for all this advices! :)

You know, I just bought a 1969 SF Super Reverb (drip edged beauty). And it had the famous AB763 circuit that made the BF famous. It's loaded with the Holy CTS 10-inch alnicos. In other words, the amp sound just as I remember my BF Super Reverb used to (except I think this amp has better reverb). SFSR go for a bit less on the market than BFSR. Just be sure it has the AB763 circuit. No screwy mods. And the CTS speakers.
