I just picked up an old Fender cabinet with no decals or serial plates anywhere. It is a very large 2x12 that has the screws for the piggy back on the top when the amp is standing tall, not long. I paid $200 for the cabinet and a head (not matching). I took the back off of the cabinet to see what speakers were inside to try and assist with dating the cab. The cabinet was flawless inside and smelt old, not sure if it had ever been removed. They are Jensen speakers but a model I have never seen. The markings on the speakers are as follows: C12PF c8037 220550. Any help in regards to the year of this cab would help. Mainly I want some information on the speakers in concern to wattage and at what OHM i should plug them into. Thanks

Ceramic Jensens from 65 or 75. Also the PF means that they have the orange flex surround most likely and re rated just below the N in power handling. Maybe 20 watts or so. You can have the F speakers reconed to "regular" Jensen cones and the P can usually be upgraded to handle more power eaqual to that of an N cone. Send the info to Weber. they will tell what they can do if you are interested.

Great, that's very helpful. So what is the maximum wattage head I can run through this speaker cabinet? Also the head I am using can handle three different OHM settings, 4, 6, 8? Should I just plug it into the 4 OHM? If I plug it into the wrong one, is it bad? Thanks again for the help.

Does the cabinet have a ported baffle and if so, how large is it and where is it located? The exterior dimensions and the cosmetics will provide additional clues to accurately date it. Likewise the center-to-center spacing of the anchor bushings on the top of the cab will determine which amp (Bandmaster or Bassman) mated to it. Showmans were always equipped with a pair of JBL D130F or D140F alnico fifteens.

Your C12PF speakers are not original to the cab -- their date codes indicate manufacture during the 50th week of 1965, while Fender's "big box" enclosures made their debut in late '66 and early '67. As well, the C12PF is not a speaker commonly used in Fender amps. They are rated for 35 watts each and were available in all standard impedances (use a DVM to ascertain the DCR and note which wiring configuration is used to calculate the total impedance of the cab).

I am not sure what you mean by a ported baffle? It is all closed up in the back, there is a piece of wood separating the two speakers. Also, I guess I need to do some research on how to use a DVM. So, I think the speakers sound pretty good, were they not taken well in the Fender product? Here are some pictures if this helps.
