Played a show with a drummer last night-we do a mix of acoustic and electric, crafty pop, jazz, folk and psych-rock-the '64 Vibroverb (not a RI) handled the different guitars and pedals so, so well! The 15" alongside the PA feed provided a rich tone and enough bottm to make up for no bass player-yumm!

I love that pic Arjay,I need to try to take some that look that good if I can,I like the setting.
Yep I think SRV loved them enough that he taught all the uneducated masses (present company excluded  ),in the realm of Fender Magical Tone, what to look for....it seems that at least every SRV wannabee kind of knows what he favored...maybe. at least it seems that every one of them wants to try the 13 guage strings.

Go down to Ace Hardware or Lowe's and pick up some of those clamp-on shop-lights with the bowl-shaped aluminum reflectors, Reb. You can use dark-colored felt as a backdrop to help frame your shots. I recommend a tripod and a remote-shutter release as well to eliminate any possibility of "jitter". 63 Supro will prolly have some more tips for you -- he's a photographer by profession (and a damn good one too).

Actually, the fact that I have a Vibroverb has nothing to do with SRV-Yes, he was a great player, but probably not even in my top 50 or 60. I like his brother much more as a player and writer. I like the Vibro for its clean tone, the 15" and its overall mojo.

Thanks for the advice RJ,I'm going to try and see what I can come up with...and yes 63supro is a great photographer....I like to learn from y'all because your work shows you know what you're talking about.

bobbya, like I said in my post,"present company excluded",that means you too :) ....there's hardly a guy here in the vintage section who owns and uses amps because of SRV or anyone else,I really can't think of one,we appreciate the tone these classic amps have and you can't get that tone anywhere else..at least that's my belief.

The SRV wannabees are usually clueless and are looking for his tone with modern equipment, how many times have we seen a thread in the Lounge section or the Strat section with a title of "How can I get a SRV tone?"

......And they want that tone from their FM25 DSP or their Frontman 15R.

Not so fast! I play a black Gibson ES335 because Chuck Barris used one to play along with contestants on "The Gong Show" back in the '70s.

I'll bet those Guilds sound real sweet, Bobby.

1972 D40 and 1979 F212. Really want a Guild jazzbox. The Vibroverb does a nice job with acoustic guitars. I run into a PA as well as the Vibro and several pedals, used for coloring.

When I bought my 64 Vibroverb Custom back in 2007, I didn't even know there was a SRV connection. The big allure for me was the 15" speaker. Back in my teens, the first "real" amp I had was an Ampeg Gemini II, which had the 15 in it. It had a really big sound that I still had a memory for. So. . . when I heard about the Vibroverb, I knew I had to check it out. It didn't take me long to decide that I had to buy it. The 20% off GC coupon didn't hurt either. Right now, I have a D130F in mine, and could not be happier with the tone that I get - along with my 57 AVRI and JV Strats. Highly recommend it!

Ampeg G-15 Gemini II......that brings back some memories!

If it weren't for their relatively rare PI and output tubes, I bet there'd be a lot more of them still earning their keep. They had a particularly sweet tone and the "Echo-verb" was remarkably nice. Very heavy though.
