I bought a red knob evil twin used last week. It was sounding kind of weak. Last night I touched a switch in the back (the one for which amount of power to have in the loop - yet I have nothing running in the loop) and the real sound kicked in. WOW! There must be some sort of short back there, cuz when I touch it it goes in and out of full power, but when the power is right it sounds amazing! On the gain channel with gain around 4-5 it is a perfect blend of clean with just a little gain so it isn't too clean. Then I stomp on my blackstar distortion box and I'm in OD heaven.

Glad I touched the switch - now how do I fix that, or is that a tech fix?

These Twins are cool as you can blend both channels, right?

Yes, it is the loop switch that I touched, but I had nothing going in the loop. It is just some sort of short that when I touched it made it go back to the normal powerful sound.

Yes, that is right. When blended it really is powerful. Even though I can, I still prefer just the gain channel with a slight amount of gain, then my blackstar OD to kick in some great gain. I have to keep the volume on about 1/2 (less than 1) just to play it in my house. And that's with the power switch at 25 watts instead of 100. This thing is loud, with great tone. And only $400!

That´s a nice price for a nice classic amp!

Don´t wanna be picky but I believe the red knobs were released in the late 80s so your thread should be in the modern 1985 - current category...but it´s close to vintage, haha. Enjoy!!

Sorry about that - wasn't sure of the date of the red knobs.

I played it again last night and jammed with classic rock (Zep, Scorps, AC/DC, CCR, etc) and it sounded amazing. Clean with a little gain from the amp and I've got CCR and blues. Hit the distortion from my Blackstar HT Dist pedal and I sound like a Marshall. Can't believe it!

Is there a way to move this thread to modern amps?

one just came up locally for $275....go or no?

Here's a little history with me and these amps - in the late 80's i was playing in a band and needed a new amp, so i went down to a local fender dealer to check out their amps. I was toying between The Twin and a Power Chorus...and I chose the Power Chorus :(

Here is a chance to finally redeem myself!

At any rate, the amp has lots of wear to the tolex and the faceplate has dings and dents on it...are faceplates available to buy? If I buy it i would have the tolex redone and if a faceplate was avaialble, replace it.
