Check out http://www.ampwares.com. This is the "Fender Field Guide" and lists all the amps.

Showman did not have a mid tone - only Treble and Bass. Plus only tremolo.

The Dual Showman is basically the Twin Reverb chassis as a head. It has Reverb and the mid tone control.

I think that is correct. Those bigger amps are really out of league. I like the small watt stuff.

The first blackface Showmans had no middle tone control in the vibrato channel......

This blonde example is an early AA763 and used 7355 power tubes rather than the more familiar 6L6GC type. The middle control was introduced with circuit revision AB763 in December of '63 which also incorporated a number of other minor changes to the chassis. The primary difference between a single-speaker Showman and the 2 x 15 "Double Showman" (as the amp was then officially referred to) lies in the output tranny. The 1 x 15 Showman is equipped with an 8Ω output tranny (FEIC P/N 125A30A) while the Double Showman uses a 4Ω version (FEIC P/N 125A29A). The "Double Showman" was subsequently redesignated as the "Dual Showman" in 1965 but it wouldn't be until the following year that the front panel was annotated with an added "DUAL" above the original script logo to indicate this. Neither amp was equipped with reverb.

Did the Dual get reverb when they moved to the SF era?

Yes, I believe that the Dual Showman got a reverb unit in the AA 769 (TFL-5000D) circuit:

The AA768 Dual Showman Reverb began shipping from Fullerton in August of 1968. It was an adaptation of the similarly-designated silverface Twin Reverb which previously used an AB763 circuit revison.

Seems to me - if I am understanding all of this correctly (just trying educate myself) - the Dual Showman in the SF era become one of those head-scratcher amps. As is in - why make a head and cab version of the Twin Reverb combo. I am not sure what is gained other than some portability. Why not just call it a Twin Reverb cab and be done with it?

Or am I missing something.

No -- you're not missing anything. It's just one of those ephemeral "Fender anomalies" which characterize the company's enigmatic history. When the Dual Showman Reverb was released in the summer of 1968, the non-verb Dual Showman was discontinued. The 1 x 15 Showman held on for a little while longer but was dumped from the line in the fall. Curiously, the Showman and Dual Showman heads only remained available through 1969 (presumably for bassists) until they were permanently retired beginning with the 1970 model year.
