Me too Reb. Although I used to work at a music store in Florida and the owner had a beautiful collection of piggy back amps and his store had a little bandstand in one of the corners and he had a BF Tremolux, Bandmaster, Showman, Bassman, and a white tolex bandmaster and two Bassmans and I used to see these all the time and having them all side by side, you could see the differences in size pretty easy. They were all mint...it looked like Arjays house

Good job restoring that circuit. Confucious say: "The quality of the tech is inversely proportional to the mass of electrician and duct tape used."

JOC... are those sandbox resistors on the power tube used to measure bias (so their around 10-ohms each?) or were they part of that crazy AC568 circuitry that had part fixed, part cathode biased power tubes? In any event, I assumed you dumped them when reverting back to the more desirable AB763 circuit.

Thanks - my friend is a true friend indeed and he does great, great work.

Are you talking about those white resisters? Yep, those went. As did the sockets, which were scorched. This thing literally was a torture bed to see how much crap could be modded or changed with the amp still working...

The original piggyback Bandmaster was a 1 x 12 tone-ring configuration measuring (you guessed it) 30"W x 20"H x 11"D. Some of these were modded right on the production line to a 2 x 12 layout, others had the same mod performed in the field (at the dealers). These first enclosures were for the most part blonde with oxblood cloth. However, some known examples of these factory-hotrodded Bandmaster cabs in blonde/wheatstraw, blonde/gold-sparkle, and even black/silver-sparkle are known to exist. Can you identify the original grill cloth color by looking at the excess wrapped around the baffle board within the cab?

Arjay

Pic attached - looking like blond/gold sparkle or black silver sparkle. Don;t know if it's original though.

Definitely not original. Sam Hutton would not let a cab with that cloth job out of his shop.

Look for a date, penciled or ink-stamped somewhere within the cab. It might be found on the reverse side of one of the cleats.

You might also look on the inside portion of the legs. Sometimes those are ink stamped with a date, which would help if they are original.

Frankly, this cabinet (and the slightly-larger and more common "small-box" 2x12 edition) does not afford sufficient internal volume for a pair of twelves. I'd be inclined to dispense with the damping sheets altogether.

thanks Arjay.

Since the insulation is so ratty and I'm taking it out, I can try the current speakers without to see if it sounds better, and then when the Warehouse speakers get here (they emailed saying they shipped today) I'll have them in a clean cabinet.

Ordering other goodies from Mojo today...

Avoid breathing any of the microscopic fibers as you remove that stuff, nedo. Seal it up in a plastic trash bag for proper disposal (it may contain asbestos).

Stay safe, my friend.

WOW...during this post I came to the same conclusion....I cleaned my 66 Bassman Grill cloth (what a difference, although not quite as dramatic as Arjays Princeton, but much better) and pulled the sheets out of the cab and put them in a plastic bag and then in another plastic bag and put them in the basement...keeping them why I don't know...just habit of keeping all things Fender.

It does sound a bit crisper without the sheets...but that could just be my crappy hearing!

If/when you ever sell the cab, some buyers prefer to have the damping sheets installed. I never throw anything Fender away.

+1 And it looks like the grill cloth on Nedos amp is the 70s type with the orange stripe. I never understood why someone would paint it black like that...not like it is going to be mistaken for a Marshall?
