Anyone own one of these? And how good is that Texas Instrument RC4558P chip when compared to the original Holy Grail 1980's JRC 4558D. My old original TS9 took a holy dump. Guess I could open it up (again) and fix it (again). But, have an in on this Keeley modded thing for under $100, new.

Any opinions? Thanks!

It's the same ol' "tone is subjective" thing we see on all sorts of gear BMW....I've read a lot of discussions and reviews on the pros and cons of the chips in the TS-9.
If you can buy one of those for less than $100,I would do it,it might sound as good as the original, and might not...one way to tell, but the RI TS-808 is alot more and doesn't sound much different then the new TS-9...I have both...well my TS-9 is probably 12 years old.

I have several Keeley-modded pedals (TS-10, BD-2, CE-2, DS-1) and he does a fantastic job. Great communication and they stand behind their work. The TS9/10 mods maximize the sound of a TS rather than change it. They also do a high-gain version.

Thanks, for your reply. I went down to local noise/guitar shop and tried out a "standard" RI TS-9 (there we go again with the "reissued" BS) versus the Keeley modified one (he had one demo).

The Keeley modded TS-9 does seem to have a much wider range of tone control. And slightly lower noise level (hard to tell in these places). So think I'll spring for one.

+1

For a C-note, I'd spring for Keeley's hand-massaging.

bought the TS9 reissue, thought it was "meh."
Had the Keeley mod, and it sounds great now on my Fender amps, and our other guitarist is borrowing it to add some bark to an AC30 for an upcoming show. I usually leave my controls at 10, 3 and 2 o'clock respectively.

worth the upgrade.

I have a couple of old TS9 RI I bought for 50 bucks, I put a the JRC chip in each along with a few different value resistors. While I can hear a difference it's nothing I would fork an extra $100 for.

i would like to have a BD-2 just to kick around.
they are all ove CL in this area, just havent pulled the trigger.
when keeley does a mod does he provide paper work or is there a
way to tell its the actual keeley mod and not some J/A passing off
a pedal and saying its a keeley?

I emailed him, sent my pedals to him through the address on the website. On my modded Crybaby, he signed the inside as well. his modded pedals also have their silver/blue sticker on them.

If you want to be totally sure, buy only off his website or send him your pedals. Otherwise, the usual caveats apply.

or what. if not, he should do both.

Bought it. Came with all the Keeley paper mods, receipt, & decal... and suggested setups. Very sweet tone. Going to compare it with my old MXR90 on my VC.

Thanks, for all the posts and suggestions.

This is where I bought my Ibanez TS9/808 pedal from with the original JR chip installed. A little bit more money but IMHO worth the price, Good luck my friend.

Tried it a little bit, last night on my VC. Has an amazing wide range of control. From just a touch of OD to fuzz city (at least on the Vibro-Champ). With that great vibrato/tremolo in the amp---very wide range of tone.

Will try it again, hopefully tonight. Now really thinking about having Keeley mod my Cry Baby. Mello-Wah... have standard Dunlop and never really like its range. Well, we'll see.
