I ordered a quad for my twin Reverb.

I found a few online folks that had nothing but good to say about them.

short bottle, big on tone.

I'll let ya know how they sound in the TRRI

I put in a pair of 6l6GC-STR in my Vibrolux Reverb and love the sound. They do sound like the RCA black plates.I liked them so much i tried a set of 6v6's in my Deluxe Reverb and Champ. I have found my new favorite tubes

And that seems to be the response you get with them.

I loved the Tung-Sol RI stuff untill I had a blow out in less than a month (microphonic 6V6), then it seeemed like others here had some trouble too.

Hopefully the TAD stuff holds up a little better in the hard pounding TRRI than my cheap set of Chinese made no branders did, one was buzzing like a chain saw within days.

They should do well in a re-issue or even an original AB763 or later model.

I wouldn't chance them in an ultra-linear 135-watt chassis though.

My experience with TAD tubes... it started with a 7025 in my DRRI, really like it and it's still in there. I then got a pair of 6V6GT-STR for my DRRI and 6L6GC-STR (tall bottle) for my SR. I wanted to have a good backup 6V6 set, the TADs sound wonderful and the closest to the RCAs I have in there, so I left them in the amp and I'm very happy with them. I just hope they last. I set the bias at 20 mA and they sing!

I had Sylvania tall bottle in my SR that I really love. The TAD 6L6GC-STR did not disappoint, exactly what I was looking for. I also tried Tung-Sol, short bottle Sylvania and some GT I had, non worked for me in the SR. After 2 weeks I wanted to check the bias on the TADs and in the process one of the tubes shorted out! The tube store sent me a replacement set, haven't tried them yet.

So far I find TAD tubes to be great sounding, I just hope reliability won't be an issue. If they hold up in both amps I can finally say I found new production tubes I can buy 8)

My set of 6L6wGC's should be here by Wednesday.

I planned on setting the bias at around 32MA aned possible moving up from there.

I'll get a set of long Gc's from them also just to hear the difference.

again anything is better than the buzzing chinese junk thats in it now, hopefully the TAD Chinese tubes hold up a whole lot better they are STR's and supposedly built to TAD's specs. (to be fair I red plated the cheap tubes in it now before I had the bias probe)

We shall see !!!

I have never biased a pair or a quad of 6L6's of any persuasion hotter than 34mA. Most of mine are comfortable and sound sweet between 32.0 and 33.5mA, and I usually get a decade or more of service from them.

38mA kinda high to start no way. If you set these twins at pretty much anything lower you start to get crossover distortion and you are just robbing tone from the amp. With a plate voltage on a twin of 460 volts with 30 watt tubes, the maximum you can set these things is about 45mA. When i had my twin i had it set at 38.That's why Retroverbal is getting 10 years out of a set of tubes he's never really ever pushing them.If you know how to set your bias experiment with it. Look how much money you are saving in Tech fees

The cheap no name tubes were red plating at around 38 to 40

fairly sure it is what caused the buzz saw microphonics in tube #3

I'll start at 32 and slowly edge up to 34, 35 checking the tone as I go.

You can push a Twin Reverb with a mutha-fuggin' Caterpillar D9 and it'll still never deliver the harmonically-rich overdriven tones of a 40-watt 2 x 6L6 platform. The amp wasn't designed to break up or compress like a Super Reverb or Pro Reverb. It's the nature of the beast. Clean and loud -- that's the hallmark. The amp requires some artificially-induced "stimulation" at the front end via some carefully-chosen stompboxes if overdriven tones are desired. An idle bias of 38mA will only wear the bottles out prematurely.
