I have come across an old Fender Reverb Tube Unit that dates back to the early 60's. The only problem is that it carries sound through it but doesn't have very much reverb. It's been in an attic for about 40 years. Can anyone tell me if it could be fixed and how much could it be worth? Thanks for the help.

Sure it could be fixed, it's a good Fender equipment. And it is easy to fix for any real electronic technician, not a guy in music store.
I bought a 1964, 6 years ago well working and I paid 900 $ Canadian.

Check the travel lock on the reverb tank at the bottom of the cabinet to ensure it's disengaged before you play the unit. It's an L-shaped sheet-metal lever. The owner's manual for the re-issue model will explain all......

Photo of L-shpaed bracket. Two screws hold it to cab. Loosen, shift top of L-bracket and pull it away from tank. A short stubby allen head screwdriver will work fine & you won't need to pull cover or chassis out. Retighten. Tank should now float on its spring suspensions:

Oh, I just included this photo because, what the heck...

Yeah, a great piece! Like the guys suggest, check the pan lock and have a tech check it out. You should have very little trouble(cost) getting that unit in shape. IMO Those units are superior to other reverb units, even the reissue. Art

The ladies are all lovely but are off the point...But thanks for the eye candy all the same...and yes I can still respect them as well
AHEM
I just got a fender reverb unit I assumed was re-issue..(also not functioning, but find the right schematic and layout first I always say) but after checking out the RI schematics and component values, its the old 6G15 circuit, choke and 250K pots and all ,but yet it's a PC circuit board versus Point to point wiring.I can find nothing on what transitions took place from the turret board to the PC version, but there are at least 4 diodes in series after the tranny versus 3 on the point to point version depicted on the schematic/layouts I've come up with. It probbly was made in the 70's or 80's but I can't be sure.. I'll try and date it when I get it on the bench this afternoon. A) anybody familiar with these transitional(?)units , and B) Also any suggestions as to why the wires leading to pin 7's of the 7025 and 12AX7 would have melted off the insulation and the 6K6 tube been charred and turned to mostly black powder would also be appreciated. The unit had rust and corrosion on the base of the chassis where the tube sockets, footswitch and reverb jacks are located. The rest of the circuitry looks ok no melts chars burns leaks etc.
any other info as well as an interum schematic and or layout would be appreciated.. thanks in advance l

Which cosmetics are used on the cabinet? Is the cab assembled with lock-joined corners?

This is the only non 6G15 or RI schemo I could find. It has only half-bridge rectifier. But, may have been modded? Stated as a "silverface." Quite a bit different schemo than my 1966.

HTH, kinda....

I'm not too sure......

The gentleman has indicated that his unit employs a 6K6 as the power pentode, rather than the 6V6 of the current re-issues. That's what's throwing me. IIRC, Fender re-issued the 6G15 in the early '70s (with silverface cosmetics) but I can't specifically recollect which tube this first re-issue used. Hopefully he'll check back in and provide additional info.

upon further reflection, inspection, and information collection, I have determines that while the unit still follows the schematic circuit 6G15, it has a copyright Fender 1993 on the pc board both top and bottom. The original circuit used a 6K6GT tube. The circuit diagrams you gentleman kindly sent were all modern re-issue versions, hence the lack of a choke, and other changes.I don't know about the cabinet construction ,having not read the question before leaving the unit behind for the day. I checked for a 2 letter date notation on the tube layout slip on the side of the cabinet but it was not helpful, nor was there a date stamped on the chassis that I could see. Having peered at the underside of the pc board however, there were no burnt traces or messed up solder joints. It just may have been a short caused by a rusty socket or jack, but all else seems visually fine. I may power it up and test some transformer outputs.

If you have a Variac, it might prove helpful during the "power-up" phase.

Variac or more avalable ; a 100 watts light bulb in serie ( yes in serie, not in parrallele as general wiring of a bulb ) with your power cord.
