Hello!

What's the difference in the old Vibro Kings and the newer ones? Someone offered to sell me an old model blonde Vibro King for about $1500... which is less than half the price of the newer Vibro Kings which sell for about $3,500.

What's the catch? The amp he is offering to sell me for $1,500 is in good condition. Are the older Vibro Kings not hand wired or something? What's the difference? Should I just go with a newer Vibro King?

Thanks in advance

I think that's the case. Also, the original reverb driver tube was changed from a 6V6GTA to an EL84 in the later "re-issue" edition.

They're both pretty righteous amps though (I just don't care much for the OEM import Jensen speakers).

As far as I know, the first generation amps used the El84 to drive the reverb section. The only problem with the set-up was that the EL84 was running too hot for the tube's specs. A minor mod, of a couple of caps & resistors, is all it needed to get the tube within specs and lead a long and healthy life. Fender put out a service bulletin on the subject and Torres Engineering published the fix in a old Vintage Guitar Mag article. I think that model was only built for the first 2 years of production. Otherwise, I think this is one of their best offerings. Art
