Ijust recently purchased a 65 twin reverb blackface and was told the only non original part was the speakers, So when I brought it to my tech he agreed and then we checked the tank nd sure enough it had been replaced its even the wrong replacement tank,Now is this very important when buying one of these vintage amps ,do u fellows feel that the replacements are not just the same as LEOS REVERB? And lets say they ar indentical to I think the vintage tanks were made by GIBBS ? Do these new ones sound identical, Does this make my blackface not a very good blackface now? I mean Will purists now scoff at this particular machine and say SORRY BUDDY ITS JUST NOT THE SAME,Or is this just an insignificant part , Imean insignificant in the way that it can be replaced easilly. One more question some one is trying to sell me a tank,He says it was from his old deluxe reverb a 65 deluxe reverb that he once had ,,He showed me pics and there was a number on it, I forget the exact number but 64 was in it he says the tank is a 64 could this be true ? wher can i get info on dating reverb tanks?

To me, if the original parts are worn out and don't sound good. AND you install quality parts that enhance the tone and life of the amp--- maintaining the basic philosophy of the amp... you are cool. (in general).

Hunt for a good Accutronics on Ebay. I'd go for US made one for sure.

While these amps are immortal, the parts that comprise them are not. Thus, it's inevitable that stuff will periodically require replacement. And the salient aspect of that is, what you replace broken, worn-out, and/or out-of-spec components with.

Cheap knock-off parts from off-shore are good primarily for ballast to keep one's garbage can from blowning down the alley in the event of a strong wind and not much else. "You get what you pay for" should guide your choice of a replacement.

There remain some stocks of USA-made Accutronics tanks which are perfectly suited as a replacement for a vintage Hammond or Gibbs and they're still priced within reach. Install it correctly and you'll never give it a second thought again.

koocho...unless you're trying to resell the amp why worry what a "purist" will say about it?
You wouldn't find a 1969 SS Chevelle with original tires....no matter what.
These amps were made to be played and to make music...loud music at times,to keep them going for 40+ years some things have to be be replaced.
I'll tell you something,I have a 1960 Fender Super that had replacement speakers, power transformer and had been converted to a solid state rectifier....not very original, huh?
I had a tech friend replace the power trannie, put in a socket for a tube rectifier and replaced some of the capacitors and I put in Weber speakers...that old Brownface amp has better tone than most of my Blackface amps.
