Love my Weber California Ceramic 12's in the Bandmaster, but have heard that the Kendrick Black Frame 12's are nothing short of amazing. Of course, this means I need to find out if it's worth the price ($$$) but it's all in the pursuit of tone. I swapped out a JJ phase inverter for a Mullard VC4024 and it was night and day, so this is about just getting better - I like my tone, but if it can be even better...

Has anyone compared them to the Webers, or if you have them, what do you like about them and what amp are you pairing them with? thanks!

You might also give consideration to Tone Tubby's hemp-cone alnico's. They really rawk!

Not speaker related... I also started using these Mullards and really like 'em! I have one in V3 (reverb driver) and a balanced one for the PI.

I take it you want to stick with ceramic speakers? Have you considered vintage speakers? Like Alnico JBL D120F or even Jensens?

A really nice hemp cone I heard in a DR once was the Eminence Cannabis Rex, wow such a sweet tone! My favorite Eminence right now is the Big Ben in my DRRI, it's a 15" speaker, not sure if there's a similar 12". Both Cannabis Rex and Big Ben sound like a combination of Alnico and Ceramic, sweet highs and the low end stays tight.

I've never heard a Kendrick speaker but if you read anything that Gerald Weber writes, everything he touches becomes amazing...(and I have all his amp books)...the guy is knowledgeable though,... but Weber speakers,no relation, are amazing.
I have different Webers in my amps both alnico and ceramic, but I'm not completely content with the tone of a '65 Deluxe Reverb with a Weber 12F150.That amp was voiced for a studio musician by one of Nashville's best amp techs,it sparkles and shimmers, but the Weber in it tends to have a boxy tone, not quite happening for me....the original Oxford wasn't the cat's meow, and the previous owner had some Celestion hell-something or another in it.
I've also thought about a Tone Tubby hemp cone speaker,or trying a Weber 12A150 alnico...the amp has tone waiting to be unleashed, just finding the right combination takes time and money,I'm in no hurry though....it's like a fine wine,or aged sour mash whiskey. :D it will taste just right someday.

How about a vintage Jensen, Reb?

A nice re-coned P12R or P12S might be just the ticket.

It would certainly work. But if you rely on speaker breakup for your sonic composition you're likely to find none with a 50-watt speaker in a 20-watt amp.

Glad to hear you say that,it's what I thought also...the P12N was a suggestion from another knowledgeable person I talked with the other day...I figured it wasn't the speaker I should be looking for.

A "Q", "R", or "S" is the ticket as far as vintage Jensens go. Either ceramic or alloy -- both provide their own specific sonic taste.
