I have been looking for a vintage deluxe reverb for years. I came across a 66 BFDR. It's in great shape i would give it a 9 out of 10 sounds wonderful. They want $2600 i got them down to $2200.The only thing i think it needs is a 3 prong cable, which i can get for $20.I need help pulling the trigger on this deal. You guys think it's good

You better damn well know what you're looking at before you pull the trigger. I've seen a lot of vintage amps butchered over the years and still fetching top $$$ from the unwary.

I can spot a replacement knob, an incorrect re-grill job, the wrong reverb tank cables, or bogus trannies numbers from ten meters away. Most vintage dealers groan when they see me come in the door.

If possible, shoot some pics of your prospective amp before buying and post them here. Let us look it over beforehand and we'll do our best to ensure you get what you're paying for.

Best of luck and I HTH

Arjay

LMAO!!! I wonder why...

Based on the prices I've seen on CL and ebay $2200 is a reasonable price if it's all original. I played through a '66 DR recently, it was THE sweetest tone I ever heard! They were asking $2500.

Post some pics if you can and I'm sure Arjay will help you make a decision...

$2200, if the amp is original and unmolested, is an outstanding price!

Well she is in great shape. This is the only pic that i have right now.

I changed the plug to a three prong today, the ungrounded amp sound was getting annoying.Plus i really don't feel like getting shocked

It looks like someone did a cap job in the amp many years ago, they are not the stock electrolytic for that time. But they did do a good job. It has the blue molded mallory's in it. I have not opened the cap pan yet,but i will be doing a cap job on this amp after i get new tubes.

As far as tubes go,i looks like they put electro harmonix on the power tubes and rectifier.I will be changing that,as for the preamps tubes it's a mixture or black plate RCA's and telefunkin tubes.

So far i am pretty pleased with the tone.and i am very happy with my purchase

+1 And for anyone else considering a vintage amp purchase, getting pics to Arjay is a must...I did and everything turned out to be original and I am quite happy with my SR, but sure like that deluxe...what a beauty!

That is one very clean amp! Love the reverb tone in the early BF's.

Enjoy it!
