Hello Eveyone! I know, Its been awhile! been hibernating! If I could get some help, I really would appreciate it! I have a 1976 ish Twin Reverb amp and, all of a sudden it developd a quirk! It has not been moved mind you in over a year. When I plug in the cord, the piolot lamp comes on, even though the standby, and power switches are in the off position. The amp seems to work fine, but, wondering if I could do it harm in this situation? Also, the push-pull does not engage the boost. Thanks!

Okay, you plug the amp in and the pilot lamp lights.

Is the amp actually "on" at that moment or do you hafta turn it on using the "on switch"?

And if it is in fact "on" with no other action required, what happens when you flip the standby switch to the "operate" position?

Hi! and thank you for your amazingly fast response! Yea the amp seems to operate in the normal fashion. Have to toggle the power/standby switch to on, in order to get sound as usual. It seems like there is some kind of power leak that makes the pilot come on as soon as you plug it in. and it wont go off until it is disconnected. I have tried a replacement bulb. [I know that its corney!], but tried it anyways! Sorry, I am not very amp tech orientated, and really do appreciateyour help imensely! I am a revived player, 50+ years of age, and there are no such beings anymore as amp techs!!

I'm guessing that the on/off switch on the rear panel is hosed, likely from age. They're easy enough to replace and only cost five or six bucks anywhere such parts are sold. Since you, by self-admission, are not tech-oriented I'd recommend finding a competent repair facility locally and letting them have at it. While the amp is benched, have the tech take a look at any other areas that routinely require servicing -- to wit, the filter and bias caps, tubes, screen resistors on the power-tube sockets, etc.

As for the inoperative push-pull boost, I wouldn't waste a dime on troubleshooting it. They never were worth a fiddler's fook to begin with (most owners deliberately disable them, along with the master-volume control).

HTH

Hey, thank you so much for your help! I guess that I just want to know if I can still use it?

I wouldn't.

But I'm "Chicken Little" when it comes to safety issues.

Your decision though......
