I am certain this question has been asked on here who knows how many times, but I went back through as many posts as I could and could not find any reference. Why are some of the mid '60's blackface amps marked "Santa Ana, CA" instead of "Fullerton, CA"?

I think that at one point the Corporate Offices of Fender were located in Santa Ana, but was there an assembly plant or shop located there as well? Or were they just doing what so many corporations do putting the name of the city where the offices are located on their products? Or is this a transitional thing having to do with CBS? But didn't the sale take place in '65? Okay, I am done postulating and will wait for Arjay or one of the other experts to weigh in with factual information.

Everyone have a wonderful, blessed and Happy Easter!

That's it in a nutshell. Fender's manufacturing facility was located in Fullerton (both as "FEIC" and later as "FMI"). However, "Fender Sales, Inc" was sited in Santa Ana, and as the CBS junta continued to assimilate the Fender organization in the "post-Leo era", the sales division grew more powerful as the suits there consolidated their individual fiefdoms. At some point in 1966, Fullerton ceased to even be mentioned in corporate literature and catalogs -- cast aside like some red-headed stepchild. This occured roughly around the same time that "corporate" in New York insisted that the rear panels of all amps be inscribed "FENDER MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS -- A DIVISION OF COLOMBIA RECORDS DISTRIBUTION CORP.".

Note -- the correct spelling should've been "COLUMBIA". Rumor has it that the Fullerton staff pulled this little gag as revenge for the corporation's hamhandedness after the sale to CBS. This typo on the rear panels was corrected in the fall of '66 but many amps from the era survive to this day.

Exhibit "A"......

Won't be present on a '64. Yours will read "Fender Electric Instrument Co. -- Fullerton, California".

Nothing I own or have ever owned had that typo. But they're out there. And I want one. "Just because"......

I don't even care what model it is.

 This one would be a GREAT one to leave you RJ.
Might be sacreligious but I'm currently trying a set of new production Tung-Sol 6V6GTs in it,put 'em in earlier this week..I'm really pleased with the sound of them...this amp was gone through by one of the best known amp techs in Nashville before I bought it in Jan. of this year and it absolutely sparkles and shimmers in tone...very much brightness, more so than my other DRs.

Everybody I've heard from who's tried the T-S re-issue 6V6GT's has sung nothing but praises for that tube. I've haven't used them yet but I'm certainly looking forward to giving them a whirl.

Rawk On!
