Hi, I'm trying to figure out what type of grille cloth is on my '64 Super- is it wheat/beige, or is it more likely aged White/Blck/Silver? It looks different from my other Fender amps, my buddy thinks it just ages that way- I am wondering if maybe leftover stock (like "wheat" cloth supposedly used in the 61-63 amps). Any opinions??

Your cloth is the original white/silver/black weave -- heavily "mojoed" from years of faithful service "amidst billowing clouds of secondhand smoke".

If you intend to restore/replace it, your best bet is the "aged white" cloth as sold by Mojotone and others. It deviates significantly from the prototype in that the weave is approximately 30% larger than the original and lacks the silver metallic component through the vertical portion. However, it's more realistic than the "official" cloth as used by FMIC on the re-issue amps. This photo speaks for itself......

Genuine-and-original blackface cloth on the left, repro as used on Fender's re-issues on the right.

This pic shows an original '64 Pro amp with its original grill apposed with a recreated '64 Vibroverb fitted with the "aged white" repro cloth......

The colors are very close, with the weave size being the only discrepancy.

If you re-grill, be certain that you orient the cloth correctly on the baffle, with the correct color sequence exposed to the front.

Best of luck, HTH

Original Jensen C10Q's, dating to late '63.

Sweet!

Looks like Jensen ceramic, C10R maybe? I'd love to hear what they sound like, to compare to the CTS in my SR.

I am with Cedar Blues, would be great to compare the Jensen's vs. the CTS's...I love the tone of both, so would be a great comparison.

Vintage Jensen C10Q's are pretty sweet -- a bit "brighter" and more animated than the CTS alnicos. But I crave that compressed warmth of a speaker with metallic-alloy magnets.

Cool to find people that know all this stuff at a glance. So, what about these speakers in my '69-'70 (I think)Twin, are they original? I kind of think my twin could sound better with replacements, but I wonder if these speakers are original, or considered desirable. I'm going to try to figure out a good way of recording and posting some clips from these amps!

The Altec 417-8C is not original to your Twin Reverb. They were however an upgrade from the OEM Oxford 12T8-1 which was the standard speaker -- likely yours were dealer- or user-installed by a previous owner. The factory upgraded-speaker would've been the JBL D120F. The Altec is similar in some respects to the JBL design, but with a smaller 3-inch voice coil and slightly lighter alnico magnet structure. In serviceable condition they are a fine speaker -- bright, articulate, and organic.
