Why did I wait so long to get a SR?? Probably the size and weight...

Got this monster couple days ago and I couldn't be happier! It's a '73, and with the CTS Alnicos in there it is one of the sweetest sounding amps ever!

Both single coil and humbuckers sound amazing thru this amp! But my Strat has never sounded so sweet!

The seller had it blackfaced and had the CTS reconed, it is very clean and no issues so far. Not bad for being 38 years old!

Because you enjoyed me beating you severely about the head and shoulders for months with a 22-ounce framing hammer while you dithered.

What a great score though!

Just looking at the amp is making me go through tonal withdrawals.

That has to be one of the best sounding amps ever put onto the planet. Think the secret is the tube rectifier. Two 6L6GC's. And four 10-inch speakers. I put coaster wheels on my old BF. Prolly would need a padded dolly these days.

Enjoy that puppy.

Cedar Blues...welcome to Super Reverb ownership...I am a little worried that you took such a beating by Arjay before you got one though

I love my 72 SFSR and it does make every guitar I own sound better...although I still love the sound of my 84 Concert...but that is another post for another time...I love those CTS Alnico Speakers :!:

I agree! A great recipe for some very sweet tones! If only it came in a smaller package...

Yours looks very clean as well! I'm really loving these CTS as well, perfect for this amp IMO!

I can only speak to the SRRI, but yeah, the best sounding amp I've ever played through. I'll never let mine go!

My only advice to people who've never played one is: DON"T unless you've got the money to buy one! Once you plug in, there's no going back!

the first "real" amp I purchased was a 1965 SR back in the late 80's. Still have it and totally love it. It had CTS ceramics as orig speakers but I have the alnicos in there now. It is tonal heaven for sure. Enjoy that amp!!!!

Now THAT's how a classic and great sounding amp should be, why don't they reissue them using the right PTP wiring with the right components?

I went through the whole Fender Reissue line up recently: BassMan, Deluxe Reverb, Custom Vobrolux, Super Reverb, Twin Reverb and none of them really sound like they could have sounded if they were built right.

The Custom Vibrolux Reverb is not a re-issue, nor has it ever been cataloged or marketed as such.

As for Fender's real re-issues, there's nothing fundamentally wrong with them that some careful tweaking of the tube and speaker complement wouldn't improve. Straight out of the box though, they do a pretty good job of mimicking the original blackface vibe. I own two (DRRI, TRRI) and have in the past owned dozens of the originals, so I've got some basis for rendering an informed opinion.

Just made a quick video so you can hear what this monster sounds like... sorry for the audio quality, just using a digital camera to record.

My Strat straight into the SR, vol at 6, treble at 10, bass and mid at 3, guitar vol around 8. Enjoy!
