My impression only: I swapped a Weber 12A150A (no doping, 50 watts) with a Celestion Alnico Gold G12 (50 watt) in a 1964 BF Princeton today. No pedals. I used my GF new Pink Strat. My 1995 Gibson LPS. And My 1957 Telecaster. Both speakers had about 30 hours break-in each. Both cost $200 plus change.

To me, really no comparison. The Weber had a much more responsive midrange tone. Cleaner bass. Better detail than the Celestion. I was really surprised at the difference considering the positive press that the new Celestion has received. That Weber is just an amazing speaker. Low volume, mid volume, loud volume. It kept a consistent character and response.

The Celestion is NOT a bad speaker. And maybe need a few more hours of break-in. But, the clarity and detail was not up to the Weber standards. I felt that the Celestion Vintage 30 in my Matchless was better, from the get-go than the Gold G12. So, perhaps I got a lemon.

Anyone else do a heads-up comparison test of this speaker?

I have Webers in all my amps and to me they sound so good that I don't even need to try others...even though at times I start thinking of trying some others, but just stay with the ones I have.

I don't have any experience with Weber speakers... I can tell you that it took a very long time to break-in the Gold. I hooked it up to my stereo and would play music through it for hours... it just kept getting better. No idea if it took 30 hours or maybe 50 but every time I took my DRRI to a jam it sounded sweeter. I even had as many guitar players plug into my amp at the jam to speed up the break-in process. It sounds very sweet in the DRRI, specially the highs and the mids, the low end was just ok. It was much brighter and harsh sounding when new.

I also have a V30, the Gold sounds way better IMO.

The Celestion Golds -- both the 10 and the 12 -- each seem to require a minimum of 50 hours before those dulcet alnico tones emerge.
